Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
My head is somewhat egg-shaped. The headband isn't that well padded and all of the weight rests on a very narrow part on top of my head, creating an irritating hot spot fairly quickly. I'm not going to lie: the Elears are nowhere near my Mad Dogs, Beyerdynamics or Sennheisers in terms of...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
Now that I've spent more time with the Elears on my head I'm liking them more and more as time passes. However I absolutely loathe the headband and the hotspots it creates on my head. As a temporary solution I've wrapped some padding around it, but something needs to be done. I'm thinking of...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
It's a big purchase for me, so I do worry a bit. I got mine from Head-Fi and traditionally in hi-fi I've seen a fairly rigid structure with regards to the chain of importers, distributors etc. In the past there have been situations where the manufacturer said you should deal with the local...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I've been using Mad Dogs with a slight bass boost for years before deciding to go for the Elear. Right off the bat I found the level of comfort.. not great. Compared to Alpha leather pads the Elear pads are less sweaty, but chafe against the skin a bit. We'll see if it gets better with...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I spent a while on this as well and arrived to the same conclusion(except the NeoMusicia isn't available to Europeans, but the eBay links I posted earlier are probably the same or close). The LunaShops silver cable is the same one I saw on AliExpress. Looks like for now the best option is to...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
Good find. I've been shopping for another cable, besides the really cheap ones I linked earlier. To me it appears finding 3.5mm -> 2*3.5mm cables is surprisingly difficult. One can get nice looking Sennheiser or Hifiman cables from China for $55, but not these.. So, besides the T1 and...- RubberDuk

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
Seems I'm jumping the Elear bandwagon. While waiting for it to arrive I was hoping to get some amp recommendations(DIY is an option) in the <500$ range. At this time I just have my old Neco and Millet Max.. I actually want this second hand WA7 I saw, but IIRC people were saying it isn't a...- RubberDuk

Mad Dogs - where do I go from here?
I understand the ADs are more neutral than the MDs, which might not be the right direction for me. In any case at ~$440-495+MDs in total for the upgrade it doesn't seem like a competitive option to be honest.- RubberDuk

Mad Dogs - where do I go from here?
Hey everyone, I've been out of the loop a couple of years and at this time I have some extra funds, so I'm looking to see what's out there in the under 1000€/$ range. My current workhorse is a pair of Mad Dogs. Based on what I've read the LCD-2 seem intriguing sonically, but they're simply...- RubberDuk

Electronic Music Exchange (House, DnB, Dubstep, etc.)
I imagine you already know Logistics(Now More Than Ever is a good album). But what about Muffler? Mostly liquid, but not exclusively. Bonus(dnb remix of a dubstep track). And a couple of mixes/podcasts - maybe you'll find something to your liking: Ad Noiseam Podcast #1 Dutty Audio Podcast 005... -
DIY Cable Questions and Comments Thread
I ordered some 26 AWG Mogami wire. Does Type I/micro paracord for individual 26 AWG and Type III/550 for 4*26 AWG braid seem right? I'd like to make two cables for starters: one with each wire sleeved and one where I just remove the shielding and use one sleeve up to the y-splitter. Also what...- RubberDuk

Europe Deals Thread
The UE6000 sale is over, but looks like UE4000 is now discounted, at least on Amazon.de. I don't know how they compare to 6000, but in any case they're going for 39eur.- RubberDuk
