Android phones and USB DACs
I just installed android L on a Nexus 7 in an attempt to get native USB audio working with an ifi nano idsd. Previously, UAPP worked - and the playback was normal. Now with 5.0 / Android L - the playback works natively out of all apps (awesome) but the playback rate/speed is super fast...- RobxMcCarthy

Nexus 7 (2013)
I tried everything to get my n7 rev 2 to play nicely with the ifi nano idsd. After days of fiddling I only have it working with uapp. I'd really like to get it running with spotify as that's my primary source. Any tips? I'm using Bruce's linaro build of cm11 as it was supposed to provide the...- RobxMcCarthy

So, I hear you on the objective analysis. Here is a RTA spectrum analysis the RCA 12av7 (color) and the "Blackplate" 12au7 (black) They appear to be identical - not sure if the results are accurate though. Will have to play around more later.- RobxMcCarthy

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
I'm going back and forth between the three RCA tubes now. If only I could have the smoothness of the Black plate with the taught bass and midrange warmth of the 12aV7... Kills me. I read somewhere in this thread that a user was unable to tell the difference between extremely expensive...- RobxMcCarthy

Project Sunrise/PS2 Tube Rolling Thread (and maybe even Project Horizon and Project Ember)
Haven't had a chance to read through this entire thread yet but wanted to start documenting some of my experience with tubes in hopes that others may more easily decide which is right for them. Source: PC / Laptop / Android - Spotify 320kbps - some 24bit FLAC DAC: Ifi Nano iDSD (smooth...- RobxMcCarthy

Need transformer help / suggestions
Ah, ok, now I understand. I've done a bit of electronics work, however I've never dealt with a transformer like this or tube equipment in general. I'll probably send it to the "us repair station", However, incase I don't, where can I get this kind of transformer? I haven't been able to...- RobxMcCarthy

Need transformer help / suggestions
Hi, I have to replace a transformer in a class A single ended amplifier. The transformer currently in there has a labdle that says 115v 0v 115v 0v 50VA "Chinese symbols" 0v 280v 0v 6 3v 0v 6 3v Now I live in the united states, so I don't require a 280v transformer section...- RobxMcCarthy

Tube amp died, I need some help
May have to do with the headphones plugged in. The amp output is rated at 300-600 ohms and I had 80 ohm headphones plugged in at the time. I noticed no audible distortion so I assumed it was fine to listen to them. Generally I unplug them after a short duration however I forgot and left them...- RobxMcCarthy

Tube amp died, I need some help
Yes I know, however sometimes I listen to music before going to bed, in which case I stumble off half asleep and forget to shut it off. I wouldn't think that this would make it smolder as it did though...- RobxMcCarthy

Tube amp died, I need some help
There was no load present and unfortunately I did not have surge protection. My computer remained on however, so I don't think there was a power issue, althought there very well could have been.- RobxMcCarthy

Tube amp died, I need some help
Well I took it apart and DEFINITELY found the problem.. The transformer blew, that's for sure... Now before I go out and replace it (assuming nothing else is broken) (the rest seems fine, and the transformer was seperated from the unit in a top cap), what would cause it to go while the...- RobxMcCarthy

Tube amp died, I need some help
I know this is double posting, but its urgent. Well this morning I woke up to a horrifying smell. I thought it was coming from the street so I closed my window, and yet the smell persisted. So I sprayed down the room with fabreeze and sat down to listen to some music. No music.. That's...- RobxMcCarthy

My tube amp just died, I need some help!
Well this morning I woke up to a horrifying smell. I thought it was coming from the street so I closed my window, and yet the smell persisted. So I sprayed down the room with fabreeze and sat down to listen to some music. No music.. That's odd. So I go over to check if the power switch was on...- RobxMcCarthy

RCA "Red cap 5963" 6SJ7 question
Ok thanks, so is there an actual design difference or is it just how they're "binned" (to take a term from the computer world)? IE do they test them at certain temps / vibration levels and determine which ones are "military grade" ? Or do they design certain ones to be "military" by adding...- RobxMcCarthy
