I think this uses the 1794 chip. About $3k as reported from the CES show. Should be a fine sounding player if it follows the basic philosophy of their other players.- rnhood

The search for high end cdp is nearly over.
I have listened to both, and have considerable time with the dcs system. They are both outstanding front ends and imminently enjoyable. I believe the dcs Elgar/Purcell rig is a bit more detailed, a bit better at placing instruments and voices in the soundstage, and is a touch more...- rnhood

Scott Nixon dacs vs. Benchmark DAC-1
I was considerably less than impressed with the Benchmark. I ultimately sold mine because it simply did not present music in a rhythmically musical fashion. It was mostly clear (not entirely though), relatively detailed, dynamic and extended. These are the strong points. The not-so-strong points...- rnhood
