USB is a many-to-many communications bus (e.g. you can have 20 devices on it, each talking to the other 19 and at a different speeds, etc -- you need to deal with contention for the bus [which device gets to talk at any given time], etc). S/PDIF is a one direction synchronous bus with just one...- rayl

This does not sound right. Other than some sort of authenticated (or pseudo authenticated like MQA) but stream, a receiving device cannot tell if a bit stream has been modified....- rayl

Sorry, I misread the data. I was more suspecting the connection going into the HMS when a higher data rate is going over the cable into the HMS... but that would not explain why stock BNC fixes.....- rayl

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
I didn't have a question with which to begin, but now that you ask... If you search this thread a bit further back to maybe Dec 2017, I reported what appeared to be a known issue (as noted by Jawed) with the Chord drivers and Windows mixer. Namely once a while, I get soft clicks. (And I even...- rayl

Actually the default sample rate for Windows is 48 kHz, which is why I brought up 44.1 kHz.... <shrug>- rayl

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
My opinion is that if on Win 10, WASAPI is muuuuuch more stable.... and I have not heard a quality difference (though I also know that some will swear by ASIO -- my bottom line suggestion is, get wasapi, preferably using event model, working first and use that as baseline. That is the most...- rayl

CHORD ELECTRONICS DAVE
If you use foobar or something else with bit perfect output via wsapi, that is best -- and the particular windows mixer settings don't matter (apart from allow exclusive control).... If one must go through windows mixer (some internet radio stations that play through browser, for example), then...- rayl

I am not recommending this as a path... but if one were set on it.. as I was with another (non-Chord) product that happened to be avail in UK and a few other countries in Europe, but not in N America.... there are plenty of concierge services in London who will make arrangements to pick up and...- rayl

On pricing, I would give some benefit of the doubt as there are also import duties. I don't happen to know what they are exactly though (post Brexit might be even higher!). I recall buying a relatively inexpensive item like around 500 GBP and paying over $200 USD in duties and brokerage fees...- rayl

Will be interesting to hear! DAVE was definitely that way for me. No dealer in New England could sell me one. I was quite upset at the policy, which- let’s not kid anyone- amounts to distributor imposing minimum inventory requirements to carry signature products under the guise of ensuring the...- rayl

Watts Up...?
While I agree with the general comment that transients outside the hearing frequency range do matter (else I wouldn’t be a Chord fan!)... bec “hearing range frequencies” are defined relative to tones, and do not rule out transients from being heard per se though of course, there is some limit to... -

Of possible interest: a new offering claiming transient aligned filtering: https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/iFi-audio-Tech-Note-GTO-filter-FINAL.pdf Just saw it -- don't know much more about it at this time.... -
Chord Electronics - Blu Mk. 2 - The Official Thread
Probably need the older Windows 7 driver. I recall seeing someone post a link to it on either here or the DAVE thread (all Chord DACs and Blu2 seem to work with same drivers, so even if the older one is not marked Blu2, it is probably the right one as long as it is Win 7).- rayl
