How does a DAC provide better than CD sound. Does it change, subtract or add some bits from the original stream where it is required? How does it know that what its doing is better than original CD.- Radical

If you can hear the internally generated noise from a headphone amp, it should be binned regardless of flexibility it is junk. Your digitized media dynamic range goes out the window what is the point.- Radical

I am not sure what you mean by "will it be able to cope with the HD650's". You mention that this is a 40 watt amp. There must be something very wrong with the amp for you to making this comment. The output swing would be 18V and I am quite sure that this amplifier would drive a 300 ohm headphone...- Radical
