Why does no one talk about the AIAIAI TMA-2?
I was seriously considering getting the Young Guru edition about a month ago, but the more I researched, the more I... didn't find. Given the distinctive minimalist styling and the novelty of the modular system, I just expected to see more discussion and reviews (positive or negative) about this...- qanda

Stereo sound: Music vs. Movies vs. Games
Quote: I was on the fence about the E10 all of last week actually ;) Decided to go something more budget just to get my feet wet. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought even such an entry level DAC would be wasted on low-impedance (~32) phones. For example: I got the...- qanda

Stereo sound: Music vs. Movies vs. Games
Thanks guys. The reason I asked was to see if I should get an external soundcard (for virtual effects) or just get a DAC/amp to boost stereo. Only problem is I'm gonna be on a laptop and I need whatever I get to be easily transportable, which cuts down on available options. The cans I have...- qanda

AKG GHS1/ Creative Tactic Alpha users?
Aye, sorry for necro! Although glad I did... Wow. Was NOT expecting such a comprehensive response (picture!), or that you'd compare the two sub-100 options I was literally just about to order haha. Looks legit, but I have to ask: what do the AKGs sound like? Are they similar to any...- qanda

AKG GHS1/ Creative Tactic Alpha users?
I'm also trying to get more impressions of the GHS1. So far, only one person on here has provided any details (then again, this is hardly a "gaming" site :D). Fwiw, I've read elsewhere that although the boom mic is fixed, you can still get clear recording with Windows' mic boost enable...- qanda

Laptop audio recommendations
Just re-read the OP. If you're going to use IEMs exclusively, I'm pretty sure virtual surround and other pyschoacoustic effects won't have any real impact. Just get a quality DAC that travels well. Of course I'll defer to more knowledgeable members that may disagree :) Quote: In...- qanda

Laptop audio recommendations
Is gaming performance more important than sound quality? PC only or console too? If you need positional audio, i.e. surround sound, for FPS titles then get a soundcard instead of a DAC. Some gaming-oriented options (in rough order of smaller to larger size): Asus Xonar U3...- qanda

Stereo sound: Music vs. Movies vs. Games
My earlier post was way too bloated, so now a couple of quick noob questions: Does stereo sound provide as good an experience in movies and newer, non-FPS games as it does for music? What (if anything) is lost by having "only" two channels in movies and games? Thanks!- qanda

Laptop audio recommendations
Hey Sam: sounds like we're in similar positions. As trog said, the E10 seems to fit the bill, although I'm still trying to get clarification on its impact in games. Check out some impressions here: Head-fi.org - [Impression] FiiO E10 Quote: I'm still green, but from what I can...- qanda

Help me survive the transition to laptop audio! Please!
Thanks for responding. I was referring to the MixAmp Pro which is one unit; I agree that a combo solution like the 5.8 or the FiiO E7+E9 would be less than ideal, but I'm editing the OP to revise my portability requirements. The U3 looks alright, but should I be worried about the 16-bit/48kHz...- qanda

Help me survive the transition to laptop audio! Please!
Pre-emptive TLDR: Looking for a transportable external soundcard/DAC to drive non-audiophile cans and enhance laptop audio for music, films AND casual gaming (no competitive FPS type stuff). Need advice on ideal devices and features. --- I will soon be moving from a desktop...- qanda

best ipod headphones?
Was looking for a good portable set myself for unamped, ipod/iphone use only and decided on the Phiaton MS 400. They have better bass and are more portable, i.e. smaller than the PS 500; they're great headphones to just pick up and start enjoying music with right off the bat. Based on the song...- qanda

Phiaton MS 400: Looking for Challengers
Thanks for the feedback! Based on Joker's (and everyone else's) comparative review of the two sound signatures, I'm pretty sure the MS 400 is more what I'm looking for than the HD25-1. And durability is important, but not as much as sound. Besides, I learned some lessons about caring for...- qanda

Phiaton MS 400: Looking for Challengers
Spurned for my first post re: Marshall Major phones. Forgive me, O Great One! I have learned much since. So after 24 hours of research, I'm about to pull the trigger on the Phiaton MS 400 (~$170). Figured I'd call for other last-minute contenders. My three main criteria in order of...- qanda

Looking for a Marshall Major clone that actually sounds good
First-time poster here! Does anyone know of any quality cans that resemble the style/design of the Marshall Majors? Love the small, square look but haven't been able to find anything that looks similar and performs better; the Marshalls are essentially $49 headphones that cost $99 because...- qanda
