Comment by 'Policar' on listing 'Nobsound Mini HiFi Sound Card DAC TDA1387 USB 8X Audio Decoding Headphone Amplifier DTS/AC3 Coaxial Optical Digital Output'
Hearing some intermittent noise in the right (and now left) channels. Withdrawn as the DAC appears to be (just slightly) defective....- Policar

Nobsound Mini HiFi Sound Card DAC TDA1387 USB 8X Audio Decoding Headphone Amplifier DTS/AC3 Coaxial Optical Digital Output Bought this for about $50. Don't really care for it.... or need it. I believe this is a multi-bit DAC and very well-regarded for its price. But I'm downsizing big time...- Policar

Replacement shells for Sure SE-535
Hi, I just broke the tip off one of my SE-535 earbuds. I shipped them in to Shure for repair and was quoted about $200, $100 apiece to replace/repair each side. So far as I can tell, the drivers still work fine. But the shells/cases could be replaced as one is cracked and they're dirty...- Policar

Hifiman HE6-SE
I just did a little research and it seems like the HE-Adapter DOES have resistors in it, which hopefully would solve the noise floor issue. I had some triple-fi IEMS that sounded much better (and MUCH cleaner) with a resistor: https://www.hifiman.com/products/detail/84- Policar

Not 100% sure but I have read that the HE-Adapter (which I'm not sure if I can order in time to keep everything in the 30 day return window) has resistors, which would in theory fix both these problems? But I've read mixed things. Can anyone confirm or deny?- Policar

Hifiman HE6-SE
Thanks, and they're not incoherent at all. My amp would be a cheap Onkyo receiver from some years ago – I also have a cheap Onkyo CD deck with it and it has a Wolfson DAC that has a really nice sound imo. I figure this is the cheapest way to get into something more hi fidelity, but I just sold...- Policar

Hifiman HE6-SE
How much better would these through a speaker amp be than an HD650 through a new M1 MacBook Pro? Thinking of returning my pair unopened and putting the money toward a MacBook Pro. :/ The price/performance seems great to me but I'd rather not worry about durability when they're a stretch for me...- Policar

Are those with blown drivers from using a speaker amp using the HE-Adapter adapter or plugging in directly somehow? Not sure whether to keep mine (unopened) or return. This is a lot of money for me for headphones and I don’t want them to break. Or if its safe I could buy an HE-Adapter….- Policar

Sound Devices HX-3 amp???
I'm surprised there's so little discussion of Sound Devices equipment. I use a MixPreD as both a DAC and amp with my smaller closer headphones (DT1350). It's loud. It has a really "aggressive" "dynamic" sound without losing details. I don't have very refined ears, but I would think this set up...- Policar

Sound Devices MixPre3
Has anyone tried using this as a headphone amp/DAC? Does it work? These are renowned for having great headphone amps as field mixers go, and it doubles as an audio interface.- Policar

No worries, but if you can think of anything let me know. I might simply be listening to different music from you. I do quite like the HE4XX.- Policar

Do you have any passages in music you could provide as an example? You've convinced me to hold onto the HE4XX until I've A/B'd it a bit more carefully and I can listen for it.- Policar

KOSS ESP-950 Thread
I find the sound of the ESP-950 to be similar to the HD650 except without the veil. Definitely mid-centric. I would not call them bright, but rolled off in the treble and bass while still being revealing of bad recordings. In my experience, all electrostatics headphones lack weight in the bass...- Policar

HiFiMan HE4XX
The bass sounds about normal to me, but then again I thought HD598s were somewhat bass heavy. :/ Seeing as I like heavy bass I'm wondering if I should start over lol. Which headphone do HD598 owners prefer? I find the HE4XX to be "plasticky" with recessed mids but something about them just...- Policar
