    Violectric V222 and V202

Can't believe how good the HD650 sound with the V222! Expansive(!), dynamic, so coherent and beautifully balanced. More engaging than the [modded] HD8XX to my ears.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

To my ears, the HD650's midrange is more coherent that of the HD8XX [modded], although I find bass definition from the HD8XX to be better. [Caveat: the HD650 I have, with less than 10 hours head time, are most likely not broken in yet.]

    Violectric V222 and V202

Frankly, as [very] much as I enjoy the V222, I actually prefer the more neutral balance of the Lake People RS-08. [Although, the V222 IMHO can be somewhat "neutralized" with effective cabling choices.] From what I understand, the further up the "V-line" you go, the more neutral the balance...

Have the SMSL D400EX and SP400 hooked up. Plan to reintroduce the HD650 [perhaps later this evening], Deo volente.

Some thoughts on AKG K812 pro

    Lovely synergy with the K812.

Good headphone amp around or under $500?

The SMSL SP400 is a great little amp that gives the Violectric V222 a serious run for the money. (Truth be told: I more often prefer the SP400.) It pairs very well with the [1x AKM4499] M400--even better with the [2x AKM4499EX] D400EX.

    S.M.S.L SP400 Impressions thread

M400 + SP400 = a great stack! The SP400 gets more head time than any of my other headphone amps . . . a highly competent and consistent performer.
