    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote:   I remember Don having similar success with a vintage amp or two - don't remember the particulars, but it seemed like those integrated amps deliver a better current to the DT-48's than what a lot of headphone amps do.

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: This is pretty good.  I admire your courage to go ahead with such an unusual item as the DT-48E.  If you haven't seen Audiophath's review at B&H you should.  It   He tells of the struggle(!) getting used to it, and how rewarding it was in the end.  It does sound really different...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: The problem I have with the HD250 being a complement or anything else is that it's not available.  Occupying such a large part of the DT-48 thread, it might make sense if it were available for purchase.  There are many legacy items that could go here, but I can't imagine how that...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: I'm not sure if this massive HD250 review makes sense in a DT-48 thread, but have you found any current items that actually compete with the current DT-48A?  Below $1000?  I read a review of the HD250 at a very reputable site that gave the midrange a score of 6 out of 10, and...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

My feeling is that the current DT-48A with current oval pads (for music listening) is on a par with headphones in the $1200 or higher range, so if the HD250 is as good as the new DT-48A with new oval pads, then it would be the greatest stereo bargain since the Shure SRH-940. BTW, I don't...

Shure SRH 940 impression and support thread

I don't think you need "expert" opinion on the 940.  It's a wonderful sounding headphone for good quality recordings, not so wonderful for bad recordings since it's very revealing.  As far as any deficiencies go, and it's been nit-picked to death here, those deficiencies are extremely small...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

If you have not owned a DT-48 as yet, then by all means do yourself a big favor and read the review by Audiophath at the B&H website (DT-48E, 25 ohms).  Please take into consideration everything he says, since his review is short and to the point, and you will experience exactly what he did.  ...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: Based on your descriptions, you are certain to have the same experience as the Innerfidelity guy.  He loved the 1350 and hated the "wretched" DT-48E.  Besides, the DT-48 series are an ancient design, are very uncomfortable, are very, very bass light, and have choppy upper highs...

    Grado PS500s (new Grado's)

Quote: I can't vouch for any of the other earpads, but I can tell you that I have to listen with my glasses off, because I get more pinching in the ears when my glasses are on.  When they are off, I have a very slight discomfort every so often, and I just shift the earpads a tiny amount -...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: Yes, extensively.  Both side by side.   The bass is strong and detailed with the 1350, and although the bass is as detailed on the DT-48E, it's lower in volume from 60 hz on down by about 6 db.  To me the 1350's bass sounds fairly flat, so there you go.   The highs on the...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: The theory isn't something I necessarily believe or want anyone else to believe.  It's just my attempt to look for an explanation for bad test results and bad listening results for the same tester at the same time.  Since my sweep tone tests didn't indicate anything near a 35 db...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

Quote: There's these three hot models who work for Beyerdynamic who adore me, and they keep me informed.  Then again, I can run the 1/4 mile in 65 seconds, so I'm usually a step ahead.

Shure SRH 940 impression and support thread

Quote: I don't understand the debate aspect myself.  I first heard of the 940 as a "detail monster" from several sources, so when they arrived, I could hardly believe how they sounded.  And even if they didn't sound "good" which is subjective, I was astounded that they could sound so much...

    The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

There's an interesting discussion at the headphiles site about testing the DT48 headphones and what most likely went wrong in the Innerfidelity tests.
