    Ath-m50 ear pad recommendation

So it’s been awhile since I used my m50s. A couple years ago, I put David Clark gel pads on them since the stock ones were flaking. Recently, I got back into them. I noticed the soundstage seemed off a little…more overpowering mids and less detail than I remember…was it due to the gel pads?? I...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

Oh come on, now. I haven't DONE anything yet. Just trying to learn. I love DIY and I get satisfaction out of using things I already have, so I look for that route first. I will not use the laptop set-up due to the advice above. Thanks! I read and seek advice to figure out the limitations of my...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

Lol, will do! I still have more learning to do before I take action...thanks all of you, for the advice so far...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

I think you misunderstood my misunderstanding :). I understand that circuits only draw the current they need, and that 800mA is the max available. I may be under a different misconception though. I thought li ion cells need to charge under a specific current value. It seems that if they had a 3...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

So I have done some more research and this is what I have come to understand: (please correct me if I am wrong)   1. Since all of my cells have their own protection circuit, arranging them to charge in series won't cause a dangerous situation. They will only charge until the weakest link is...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

Not sure if I read that one...I will give it a read, thanks...and while you're here, thanks for all the other articles I did read.   By 2 two 9v "not working" I meant that they won't fit in my tin. It's not an altoid box. It's shorter and more narrow. I did retrofit two 9v outside the tin just...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

Tangent, I am in process of learning. I do appreciate the stern warning. I mainly want li ion due to its punch per size benefit. I have a small tin for my cmoy, and find myself wanting more voltage and current for some super low impedance headphones. 2 9v won't work. Also, through what I've...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

I don't know how to balance the cells. Is this a big deal? I also thought about a real ground but was unsure of any unevenness of batteries, and I'd prefer not to hassle with figuring out the balancing thing. I may stick to the splitter unless you convince me it's worth the hassle of balancing...

    3.5mm plugs for Mogami 2534 or L-4e6s?

Maybe skip the heat shrink part. I attached the neutrik mentioned above to a star quad no problem. Just strip little bits of conductor, so the insulation is right next to the poles. I also couldn't crimp the insulation of the star quad for the strain relief, so I crimped the 4 wires with the...

Cmoy power: Li-ion batteries in series?

Hello! I have 4 ipod mini batteries that I would like to run in series to power my cmoy. They are 3.7v and claim 1300mah each (all new, too). That should get me 14.8v at 1300mah. Each has it's own protection circuit built in (I think). Is this a safe set-up? I could only find warnings on...

Help to alleviate high volume distortion on cmoy.

I might try the resistor and caps. I have some 47ohms laying around. Otherwise I will probably just leave it be. I am learning that I don't have to listen as loud due to the better quality of sound I get with my setup now, compared to what it was. Also, my pioneers are ok alone, but respond very...

Help to alleviate high volume distortion on cmoy.

I rigged up an 18v supply and it performed better, especially with the pioneers. The amp handled higher volume better...too bad I don't have enough room for the second battery. I have a 470uf before the splitter, I have won't have room for more of them...too tall. I can try a pair of 220uF...

Help to alleviate high volume distortion on cmoy.

So I measured the rails under load. With my m50s, it pulls a tad to the negative rail, -4.2 and 4.1. With my vintage pioneers (8 ohm) it distorts like mad at lower volumes. When I measure then, the rails read about -4.3 and 3.85 as opposed to -4.17 and 4.16 with no load. I also rechecked my dc...

Help to alleviate high volume distortion on cmoy.

You are right. v+ to in, v- to common, virtual ground to out. Stressful work day! :/ The battery is new, but has been in a drawer for awhile...I can see what other batteries to try. I will also verify voltage under load.

Help to alleviate high volume distortion on cmoy.

I do. I did measure dc offset. It's around 3-4mV. With no load, the rails are less than a tenth of a volt off in magnitude. What else can I check?
