I have rolled all three driver setups I have for 6+ hours each the past week and I have new impressions. Mainly this is because I consolodated my dac collection down to 1, the PCM1704 based Audio-GD Reference-5. My new favorite is the adapted 12j5GT made by ADZAM + 6336A Chatham power tubes...- Nayyte

Adcom GDA-700 DAC - Updating to modern parts, advice!
PSA if anyone from the interent is here looking to do a similar mod. DO NOT MESS WITH THE DIGITAL SECTION BYPASS/FILTER CAPS. The stock parts in the digital section are just fine, and after I replaced them the pretty sound of the 1702 turned sterile for the worse. I was very happy with the...- Nayyte

What lush, warm, euphoric, organic sounding DACs are there out there?
Figure I'd chime in here since I've had good expereience with old Burr Brown chip dac's the last year. Currently I use the Audio-GD Reference-5 dac in my chain. It uses 4x PCM1704 chips and can do NOS and 8xOS, where I prefer 4x OS. I would say the biggest trait of its sound is the...- Nayyte

My Sylvania 12sn7gt sounds very good and so does my Toshiba 6sn7gt, but I didn't love the sound of the Toshiba with the 6336a. The Toshiba did sound very good with my various 6080 tubes. Interestingly my Sylvania 12v didn't lower the noise of my 6080s as much as it did for the 6336a. My GOTL...- Nayyte

For 6AS7G tube rollers here .....
Howdy folks. Got these Philco branded 6as7g for a good price but I don't think they're anything super special. What drew me was that their micas look to be thicker than normal. Thoughts...- Nayyte

Chord Electronics Qutest DAC - Official Thread
I'm sure this has been asked many times here so feel free to quote and point me to specific pages. Hunting for new DAC options these days and I've been gaining interest in the Qutest. I think the thing I like the most about the Qutest is the form factor. It would be nice to have a piece of gear...- Nayyte

@whirlwind I'm so jealous of those Chatham coke bottles. Gorgeous, and I bet they sound even better 😁. Anyways here's what I'm trying tonight. Adzam 12j5GT with adapter from gentleman @Deyan, thanks a bunch! This combo sounds really interesting. With the HD600 at first listen I thought it...- Nayyte

ZMF Auteur Thread
@Tom288 The Aeolus was my first ZMF as well and I have the Auteur OG now. I also felt that the Aeolus was way too thumpy overall and that killed it for me. The Auteur OG (not heard the classic) still has a great bass prescence without leaking into the mids at all really. The only concern I have...- Nayyte

Is this a new JAR mod? I particularly like the solid material in front of the driver since the foam hole is annoying sometimes.- Nayyte

Rolled back some tubes, Toshiba 6080 HI-S and Toshiba 6sn7GT. The 6336a tube was good but coming back to the 6080 was the right choice. Soundstage is deeper and vocals are more precise, more WOW factor. Less heater noise as well. Who knows, maybe the power station is burning cleaner tonight /s...- Nayyte

ZMF Auteur Thread
My listening habbits are sometimes disappointing in hindsight. Simply because I have a bad habbit of not listening to my Auteur OG at all for months on end, because I know how good it is and I want to care about other headphones/don't want to spoil myself (?). For months and months I have been...- Nayyte

I had one for 5 months or so and did a lot of tube rolls. I didn't enjoy any of the 6dj8 equivalents but I had great results with adapted 12a*7 equivalents. The MJ2's tube stage is pretty good for the used price BUT IMHO the weakest point on the MJ2 is the solid state portion of the...- Nayyte
