My favorite night combo is a Hel 2E paired with Audeze LCD-2 Closed with their microphone cable. If I don’t want to power up my PC, I have a Wiim Mini connected to the toslink input, which doubles as a streamer and Bluetooth receiver.

I haven't logged on in months, but just wanted to add my 2 cents of useless feedback to this great story. If Schiit shipped vertical amps that can beat a Mjolnir 3 preamping a pair of Tyrs, I would move heaven and earth to change my loft setup with slanted walls to accommodate them, no questions...

I had to switch my Folkvangr to low gain last night for my Kennerton Odin. That was a first. Sounded amazing though - I just sat and basked in my whole collection, didn’t much care what genre it was.

I haven’t found any, so I use banana plugs that don't require hand tightening for a firm contact. When I need to make a custom length I use right angle connectors from Parts Express for strain relief.

My Tyrs stay cool even after flaying my setup for hours nonstop, the top plate is cool to the touch and the heatsinks are the same temperature as my palms. And I don't dare turn up my preamp over 35-40%, because it's possible the last thing I will hear in this life is my speakers exploding...

I sure do, though not Magnepans, those are JBL Studio 590’s. It was a single Vidar first, then 2 as monoblocks, then Tyrs and the Vidars got evicted to my living room. The family uses TV sound (with Sonos Playbar), and when I want more I’ll flip to my standalone DAC-preamp fronting the Vidars...

Definitely black where I can get away with it. Folkvangr was a solid 10 minutes of hair-pulling before I decided I'd like silver and grey with lit tubes more than black and grey. Except the black Mjolnir's orange LEDs are right there and look better than I expected... maybe one day I'll swap...

You hit the nail on the head - it's a really tough balancing act to pick gear that makes anything sound good, from YouTube to an old recording to a Chesky binaural album, without going over the line into pedantic finger-pointing. It all turned out for the best though, the EQ phobia (and Schiit)...

It's not pure cork, it's engineered flooring designed to be laid right on top of the subfloor. The typical rough cork on the bottom, and polished cork on top. It's super clingy, nothing slides on it - and it's just as fragile as the normal stuff. Can't take spikes, can't take casters (too soft)...

P.S. 100% agreed on the Tyr quality - I'm never letting them go. When I die there's going to be a handtruck following my coffin to the gravesite.
