    FLAC 192/24 & Computer audio

Quote: No, upsampling your music doesn't make it sound better. That's like converting 128k MP3 to FLAC and saying it increases quality. It's simply impossible.

    Bit-perfect CD ripping

Unless you burned the CD with EAC using the CUE sheet generated with EAC, there will probably be differences in the rip. Ripping from burned sources is highly discouraged regardless.

Have Ultimate Ears retained the same quality since being acquired by Logitech?

I ask because a friend highly recommends UE Triple Fi 10s, but by the time I will be able to buy them, all that there will be on the market will most likely be Logitech-owned ones.   Thanks!

Looking to spend about $150-$175 (CAD) on 2.1 computer speakers

update:   I got the Edifier S330D the other night, and thanks for the suggestion!   Liking the way they sound (These are my first speakers in like 2 years, been using headphones all that time)   Nice to have real bass!

    Bit-perfect CD ripping

EAC is better than dBpoweramp if your CDs have errors, it has better error correction

Looking to spend about $150-$175 (CAD) on 2.1 computer speakers

Quote: Looking at the Edifier S330D, it looks pretty nice, plus its a bit less expensive than the Klipsch.   I also like that it doesn't have any stupid hardwiring in the satellites, and everything is replaceable.

Looking to spend about $150-$175 (CAD) on 2.1 computer speakers

I've been looking at two sets, mainly. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, and the Logitech Z623 2.1   Which of these two would you recommend, or would you recommend something else?   I plan on using these for listening to a LOT of music in my small bedroom (10' x 11', lol), so pure volume isn't a...

I need an alternative to EAC

Another recommendation for dBpoweramp.   Failing that, foobar2000 is pretty good (and free)

Confused about all the ALAC, FLAC, LAME, V0 talk

I suggest following this guide to rip things to FLAC:   http://blowfish.be/eac/ It's very important that you configure it properly, or else your files will not be an exact copy of what's on the CD.   Also, regarding the errors whole ripping thing, that would be a problem with your...

Will there be loss of quality going from MP3 CBR 320 kbps to MP3 VBR V0?

Get a program like dBpoweramp to re-rip the CDs. It rips things quickly like iTunes or WMP, but the quality is assured due to it's checking the accurate rip database.

    mp3's

You can use something that can encode in free format to go up to 640K, but that doesn't work on, well, anything.

How much freq. do you hear? (20-20000)

Using my cheap Zune earbuds I can only hear up to 16KHz. I would like to try this test with some Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 Pros some time

Can anyone recommend me a decent soundcard for around $100?

I have decided I want a soundcard. Up until this point, I have been using a USB headset, but it sucks for listening to music. No USB things please, my USB ports are screwed up. I don't think I need a top of the line 192KHz capable card or anything, just something to plug my headphones in to...
