My advice: if you already have the phones you are planning to use dont research reading, research them by using and enjoying them. read stuff when you want to compare with things you dont have, and even so you will find that some opinions are a bit skewed and/or dont match your subjective...

like bangra said leave it for a day (or even a bit more). leave it in a warm enviroment, i have the strange feeling humidity could have frozen a bit inside and it got condensed when got into room temperature, maybe leaving it in a warm place can get that humidity to evaporate. In any case...

To be honest many things could have happened to your discman that could be fixed, but you need to say more info: -is the disc spinning when you turn on the player? -does it make a sound that is typical from the transport and pickup (like searching for something) -what kind of power source...

Be sure to check the polarity too. Its indicated in the jack in the back of the unit. this is what i use for my D-33 and works great, it pretty dirty in the pics as i got it used and cleaned it after the pictures (also has the polarity icon):
