  1. Shure SE846 Sound Isolating™ Earphone

    4.50 star(s)
Thought that I would post this here as well because peple who search for this should be able to find this easier. Has been reposted from the SE846 thread.   Today I got the chance to listen to some of my friend's gear and compare them to the SE846/DX90. I was particularly curious about the Roxanne, but the IM03 turned out to be a very interesting listen indeed. Here is my comparison of the SE846 and the Roxanne since there hasn't really been an in depth comparison yet. Obviously, YMMV.        JH Audio Roxanne vs Shure SE846 (White Filter)  ...
  2. Brainwavz AP001 Portable Headphone Amplifier

    4.00 star(s)
The Brainwavz AP001 is something that I rather unique in today’s market. Whereas we have plenty of portable amplifiers, I don’t think that I have seen on that is quite as unique as the AP001. To be perfectly honest, a week or so ago I had never even heard of the AP001 until Brainwavz offered to send me one to review. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Audrey from Brainwavz for sending these for me to review.   **Disclaimer** These were given to me in return for an honest review.     Unboxing & Accessories Let’s start with the price...
  3. Brainwavz R3 Dual Dynamic Driver Earphones

    4.00 star(s)
First I’d like to thank Audrey from Brainwavz for sending me the R3 to review. Brainwavz was one of the very first companies I encountered when I joined Head-Fi; their legendary B3 was one of my first higher end IEMs. Since then, I have heard many other Brainwavz offerings and I have enjoyed each of them and none have struck me as off sounding. I had quite high expectations about how the R3 would sound.   The Brainwavz R3 has been an IEM that has received a lot of attention on Head-Fi lately and I have heard quite a few things about it, but I have...
  4. Brainwavz HM9 Hi-Fi Noise Isolating Headphones

    4.00 star(s)
First I would like to thank Salsera for sending me a HM9 for me to review. Having recently reviewed the rather interesting S5, I felt like I had a general idea which direction Brainwavz were heading in and upon listening to the HM9, I was met with exactly what I was expecting, but it did exceed my expectation a little on a whole. Brainwavz being one of the first brands I came across when I first joined Head-Fi a while back, has always been one of the brands that I have watched.   The HM9 is one headphone that I have kept my eye on from the time...
  5. MEElectronics M9-BK Hi-Fi Sound-Isolating Earphones (Black)

    5.00 star(s)
There aren't many sub-$10 IEMs in the market. With all the recent budget IEMs being priced at around $50, it leaves very little choice for people who are looking for a very cheap IEM. As far as I know, the main choice for many people is the Monoprice 8320 and having heard them, I certainly see why. They are the only IEM I have heard under $10 that actually sounds decent. It is not, however, good in all areas - the cable is a pain and so is the housing. Then I heard that Meelectronics had a new IEM that was going to be priced at $10 and I was...
  6. Brainwavz S5 In Ear Headphones

    4.00 star(s)
First I’d like to thank Salsera and Brainwavz for sending me a review sample of the S5. Brainwavz are a brand that I am quite familiar with. They have many IEMs that are often praised on Head-Fi and I have had an experience with a few of them. They were established in 2008 and are a relatively new company and their IEMs are priced quite competitively for how they sound from my experience. I also heard their HM5 and was very fond of it. Let’s see what they have in store for us now.   I remember the time when I first joined Head-Fi, with my pair of...
  7. ROCK JAW ALFA GENUS

    4.00 star(s)
First I’d like to thank Rock Jaw for sending me the Alfa Genus for review. If you haven’t heard of Rock Jaw before, I don’t blame you. They are a rather new company that recently came out with a wide range of IEMs and headphones. The Alfa Genus is one of their mid-range IEMs, which is priced at £50, which is quite budget minded for people who don’t wish to spend so much on audio.       Those who know me will know that I have always loved IEMs, especially IEMs that punch above their price point and IMO the Alfa Genus is definitely one of them...
  8. DUNU DN-2000 Hybrid 3 way earphone

    4.50 star(s)
First I’d like to thank Rocky from Dunu for sending me a DN-2000 to review. Those who have been following the mid-range IEM market might have heard of Dunu and their previous flagship, the DN-1000. I have to admit, not long ago, I had never heard of Dunu, but after I heard the DN-1000, I began to read some reviews on their other products, and all their IEMs seemed to look very impressive and have a somewhat boosted bass. Dunu has recently come out with a new model, the DN-2000, which is what I will be reviewing today.   Some of you may have seen...
  9. T-Peos H-300 - 3 Way Hybrid

    3.50 star(s)
First of all, I’d like to thank T-Peos and H20Fidelity for including me in the tour and making this review possible. Now, I’m not going to dwell too much on the accessories, packaging and stuff and go straight on to the sound. For the review, I ran them off my iBasso DX90 and I also used it with the O2, which synergised quite well. On we go with the mini-review then.     Sound Quality The H200 received quite a of praise about how it sounded but I never actually heard it. I was really looking forward to hearing what T-Peos would be able to do...
  10. iBasso DX90 Portable Digital Audio Player

    5.00 star(s)
I’m sure that if you are on Head-Fi once in a while and you are interested in portable audio, you will at least have heard of iBasso. The DX90 is iBasso’s third DAP, the first two being the DX100 and the DX50. The DX50 turned out to be a huge success right off the bat and the first few batches were sold out very quickly. I wrote a review for it a while ago and I thought that despite the shaky UI at the start, the DX50 was an exceptional product after iBasso came out with some firmware updates. Another interesting feature that the DX50 had was...
  11. HifiMan Electronics HM-700 DAC with RE-400b Balanced In-Ear Headphones (Black)

    4.50 star(s)
First I’d like to thank HiFiMAN for sending me their new HM-700 DAP and RE-400B (balanced version of the RE-400) bundle for me to review. I have always wondered about the balanced players that HiFiMAN offers and what they do to balanced IEMs. From what I hear, the RE-400B is a very nice match with the HM-700 in balanced mode.     Now, if you are around on Head-Fi often, you probably know about HiFiMAN by now. For those who are unfamiliar with HiFiMAN, they are a company founded by Dr. Fang Bian in 2007. I haven’t had any experience before this...
  12. Leckerton Audio UHA760

    3.50 star(s)
First I’d like to thanks Nick from Leckerton Audio for the UHA760 loaner unit. I’ve read quite a lot of people praising the UHA-6S.MKII and when I heard that there would be a new model from Leckerton coming out, I was very interested indeed. I have never heard any Leckerton product despite hearing about them because nobody really seems to own them in Australia and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect in terms of sound from the UHA760.     The UHA760 is Leckerton Audio’s new flagship amp/DAC unit and it slots in above the previous and very popular...
  13. MEElectronics Atlas On-Ear Headphones

    4.00 star(s)
First I’d like to thank Mike of Meelectronics for sending me their new Atlas for me to review. Meelectronics started off selling MP3 players, but later decided to move into the headphone industry instead. They have mostly been making products in the more entry to mid-range level and the Atlas is no exception. At $99 MSRP its price range considered a bit higher than entry level headphones like the Zoro. A while ago, I reviewed their A151 IEM and although it took some getting used to, it was nothing short of incredible for the price. After reading more...
  14. Astrotec AX35

    4.50 star(s)
Astrotec has been mostly into budget IEMs until recently, when they introduced their AX60, AX7 and now their AX30/35. The version I have here today is the AX35. I’m not sure of the prices yet, but from what I hear, the AX30 will be around $65 while the AX35 will be $80 (USD). The AX30 is supposed to be the bassier model of the two while the AX35 was tuned to be more neutral. Me generally preferring a more neutral presentation, picked the AX35 over the AX30.     Hybrid IEMs really are the FOTM here on Head-Fi, with the DN-1000, AX60, H-200...
  15. Dunu DN-900

    4.00 star(s)
First of all, I’d like to thank Rocky Wu from Dunu for sending me their new DN-900 hybrid IEM which is the DN-1000’s little brother. My (admittedly short) journey with Dunu began when Dunu generously arranged a giveaway for their DN-1000 which I happened to win. To say the least, I thought that the DN-1000s were nothing short of stunning and quickly, they became one of my all time favourite IEMs. Later on, in one of our PM conversations, Rocky brought up their new hybrid, the DN-900 and I was immediately intrigued at what Dunu could achieve with the...
  16. Project Palaios: Iona

    4.00 star(s)
From the moment Charles told me about the new project that he was working on, “Project Palaios”, I was intrigued. A wooden amp? That’s certainly not what you hear everyday and from the pictures that he put up on the website, all 3 colours of the amp looks amazing. It just so happened that I was going to Hong Kong around the time the Palaios was released so I decided to meet up with Charles and buy one off him. I think that the Palaios amp is a model from his new company called SQD Tech which he founded after he left Rhapsodio. I think that they...
  17. Dunu DN-1000

    4.50 star(s)
Dunu has been in the audio industry for a while now as an OEM/ODM supplier but only recently have they started making earphones for themselves. A lot of their IEM models are metal and they have quite a reputation on Head-Fi, many reviewers praising their lower end models for their awesome build and their value for money. Anyway, recently Dunu introduced a new model into their product line, the DN-1000, and that is what I will be reviewing today. The DN-1000 is their new flagship and costs just over $200 and is the model above their previous flagship...
  18. RHA MA750i

    4.00 star(s)
First, I’d like to say a big thanks to the RHA team for generously arranging the review competition and for choosing H20Fidelity and I. To be perfectly honest, I hadn’t heard of RHA before this year, when I saw some reviews of their products on Head-Fi. From what I read, the MA750 that we were sent is currently their flagship, followed by their MA600.   For a long time, I have always been on the BA side of the driver debate, but I have been quite impressed by some dynamic IEMs like the GR07 MKII and I wasn’t exactly sure what I should expect from...
  19. MEElectronics A151-BK Balanced Armature In-Ear Headphones

    4.50 star(s)
First of all, I’d like to say a big thanks to Mike of Meelectronics for sending me an A151P for me to review. Meelectronics is a company created in 2005, at which time they made MP3 players. Further down the line in 2010, they started to make their own earphones and headphones and they have further developed their product line. The A151P that I am reviewing now is a revision of the older A151 with an added microphone and one button remote. This is one of their more mid range IEMs and has a RRP of $79.99 but the street price is somewhere around $50...
  20. HiSoundAudio BA100

    4.00 star(s)
First of all, I’d like to thank Jack Fu of Hisound Audio for sending me the new BA-100 for me to review.  Hisound has been a company that IMO raised the bar in terms of price/performance. I was very impressed by their PAA-1 Pro, E212 and E350 and believed that they all performed very well in their price bracket. The BA-100, as its name suggests uses balanced armature, or BA drivers. There is one driver in each ear, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that other multi driver IEMs are superior.  Quite simply put, I was blown away by the BA-100...
