A nice combo suitable for neutral/bright headphones, both devices have pleasant, warm timbre and very musical presentation - it's not one of these Chinese measurement-chasing amps. Asgard 2 is a class A amp, the condition is good, small chips visible on the knob. Fully functional, built like a...- LeonidK

GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge
That's similar to my own experience, I have struggled to find peace with RME for months, while I've been satisfied ever since I got R26. That is difficult to explain since in A/B comparison the differences weren't very noticeable, at least on my friend's rig.- LeonidK

GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge
I don't think that was the case, the amp was Ayon Spirit III and the speakers Audio Physic Classic 20, both solid contenders. Very expensive cables on top of that. 1. That's a valid point, but I think most of us have only a couple of test pieces we can recall very well and detect if that note...- LeonidK

GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge
Has anyone of you ever did a blind comparison of R26 and any other dacs? With RME ADI-2 on my nearfield setup I've always had that feeling of instruments being congested and put on completely flat soundstage with not really natural timbre whatsoever. When I plugged in R26 I never even listened...- LeonidK

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
I actually prefer Asgard 2 to Feliks Echo MK2 in most ways. Echo has a bit more sweetness but the difference is not big, both are very smooth and warm amps. The dealbreaker here is treble, on Echo I had to use EQ to boost treble because otherwise orchestra sounded very blunted and somewhat...- LeonidK

I'm waiting for Asgard 2 to arrive, so I'm going to share my experience. I'm not very sensitive to treble tho and I don't believe HD650's treble could fatigue me on any amp, it's just very recessed there.- LeonidK

Thanks! Do you think A3 is much more future-proof? I might eventually go for some planar. AFAIK A3 has much more power than A2.- LeonidK

That's what I was thinking, but Asgard 3 is currently unavailable in Europe and expensive. I can get used Asgard 2 for 160 EUR, do you think it's worth and safe to get such an old amp?- LeonidK

What are your favourite cheap solid-state amps for HD650? I mean like up to 300 EUR used. I liked it on tubes but a little extra extension in treble would be welcome and it was already a little too thick for my taste. I don't like harsh and sterile sounding amps for all THX offerings are...- LeonidK

Has anyone compared HD600 to FiiO FT3 on tube amp? It's 350 Ohm and I thought it might be a good pairing. Long ago I just had a brief listen to FT3 on any random SS amp and I was not amazed, but I thought they were a fair competitor to HD600/Sundara in that price range.- LeonidK

New - Austrian Audio Hi-X65
People need to understand you can't have everything, perfect headphones don't exist. IMO the only way to have wide soundstage and full, meaty sound is to buy speakers. From my experience headphones that are soundstage-focused usually lack body. Such correlation happens between Susvara and...- LeonidK

If you're looking for weight then X65 is a wrong direction. You could try Monolith M1570 (stock velour pads) if it's available in your region. I bought it right after my X65 broke and it was fantastic, the best headphone I've ever had apart from HD650+OTL (TOTL timbre). M1570 has quick and...- LeonidK

New - Austrian Audio Hi-X65
I haven't heard OG but I know Clear MG and I find it superior in every aspect. X65 has great imaging and airy soundstage (I can't remember if it's very wide), nice clarity in the midrange and slightly warm sound, but it has zero bass impact, which makes it quite lean sounding. Good for...- LeonidK
