The perception of sound has much to do with personal taste. Some external tests came to the conclusion of a comparable sound signature (Xelento vs. IE800/IE800S), and I found this to be true. Re the bass, the IE800 has a profounder and more "visceral" bass compared to the Xelento, not the other...

For people being in a similar position like you, I would like to point to my offer some posts ago (#391). This can be got individually as 3 different flavours, but also as a 3-IEM-bundle of one "true" fake, and two well-done clones, as described. So the buyer can test, what fits his taste best...

Which leads me to pointing again to my previous offer in #391, both for these type of DIY-Labs-IEMs and for my fake IE800s. But meanwhile I've finally settled to an original Xelento Wireless, and therefore I'm offering here the contents of my experimental phase.

Let me first explain: My intense "experimental" phase this January has led to 3 "IE800" products: a) Just an IE800 fake as discussed here, with "Sennheiser" box and everything else (see pics below). Like a real Sennheiser IE800, just not being one :wink:. I bought it on Ebay but have forgotten...

Only just now I stumbled upon this old post, and just for curiosity I tried it with my trusty rusty IE800 clones/fakes. They behave just like you described for your legit ones. Closing the upper vents leads to (estimated) 10 db or more loss at everything below 50 Hz. I didn't test higher, and...

Very interested in your comparison. How did you find the diylabs ie800? I think they don't sell them as original IE800, but they say only they are equally good. So why do you call them "fake"? My own IE800 have a really terrible stiffness with their cables. Unusable, if I don't use them other...

I can't imagine that the housing makes a very significant difference. At least not in this case. I may be wrong, but could you anyway give some comparative impressions/characterizations of all three (i.e. including your memory of your IE800 S audition)? Thanks a lot.
