Thanks again for all  the recommendations.  I'm a tad hesitant with the DT770s- the consensus seems they're a tad bass heavy.  I'm leaning towards just getting the ATH A900z or the ATH 990z, with the AKGs in the back of my mind.  

Thanks for the recommendations.   I did not know that they released a new version of the ath A900x, so the ATH A900z is a great/safe option.  I have thought about the AKG 553 pro actually, and this is an option. I hadn't heard of the NAD HP50 but I will look into these.    I'm not interested...

Thanks for the response.  I actually have a pair of A900x. I've had them for a while, and sort of want a new closed pair just to try something new. At $120, it's hard not jump on, but I don't want to waste my money either if I end up liking the A900xs better.. Part of it is I have the AKG 701s...

Any idea how these could compare to the ath a900x?  Very close to jumping on these.

I can get a pair of akg q 701s for $150, but don't really want to drop any more money on an amp. If I do not plan on using voice chat with my akg q 701s at all, will the mixamp be sufficient?  I plan on using the mixamp and headphones with both my PC and my ps4.    Also, if they are not strong...

I typically just plug my current headphones into my laptop since they don't need an amp.  My mixamp is for my ps4 and my gaming headsets.  However the mixamp is compatible with my PC through USB.
