    Difference between capacitors

capacitors are made with different dielectrics for different aplications and cost, for example teflon for low leakage and tight tolerances and ceramic for cheapness.

Solid Silver ICs and WBT/Furutech... Worth the price?

when you said IC's I thought you ment intigegrated circuits! (Silver would be a very poor substrate due to it's lack of band gap precluding any semi conductivity) Also as you asked to be talked out of it all audio cables are placebo past the point where they are constructed corectly (no loose...

suggested books for the complete diy novice

Microelectronic Circuits, Fifth edition by sedra and smith. Totaly sweet introduction to small signal and large signal models of BJT's, MOSFETS, JFETS and GAAS devices. Also some matirial on oscilation, filters and power amplifier topologies. Slight bent towards analog IC circuits (Dual emitter...

    Inrush Limiting

Probobly the best idea to use a timer of some sort as it's a sub amp so sometimes it will just sit there drawing minimal power and if the amp is turned on and off suddenly the thermistor is not usefull. I was planning on having a microcontroller in there anyway for volume controll.

    Inrush Limiting

I am building a power supply for a monster quadrophonic sub amp that has 60mF of rail capacitance a 640VA toroidal transformer. Can I get away with just using an NTC current limiter to limit the inrush and use a slow blow fuse or would something more elaborate be recomended?

have you considered using a regulated supply which would be smaller and offer greater performance at lower cost?

Snap in capacitor PCB landing patten

Hi I am having trouble understanding what kind of hole I need for these capacitors: http://www.rapidonline.com/netalogue/specs/11-3123e.pdf The datsheet seens to suggest a simple 2mm diameter hole, however whats with the strange shape of the pins? I have some of these capacitors and apart from...

Design Amp from the Ground Up

I am just finnishing my first year of EEE and this is rearly not that complicated, you have learnt about diffirential amplifiers, common collector/emitter amplifiers, various outputs stages and variations of all these with active loads. A complete audio amplifier is just aload of these strung...

    Amp inputs

All of them are rubbish contacts compared to something like a locking coax connector and connect the signal before ground.

    DIY Bench Power Supply

if you insist on building your own then try and at least build something you can't buy for a good price, for example 10V - 400V adjustable (by switching transformers as the voltage ramps and using a floating regulator). Current and voltage display are esential as is adjustable current limit as...

Are Black Gates really that good?

generic capacitors are fine it's only audio frequancy stuff. If mains hum is an issue a regulated supply is in order, although people seem to be alergic to building decent regulated supplys for tube amps for some reason. As an ilustration why black gates are pointless regardless of spec...

    High Current 6 wire connector?

you misunderstand the amplifier is very ineffeciant due to operating in class A. The load is a 4ohm speaker. In an ideal case I would get from my +/-25V rails I would get 78.125W maximum transmited to my load however I only expect that I will be able to get within 5V of each rails without...

    High Current 6 wire connector?

I am wondering if anyone knows where to get rear panel conectors capable of 20A per pin for connection of power supply to amplifier. Low cost is primary concern here as the amplifiers will be moved at most once or twice a year. My basic problem is I want to build a 50W class A speaker...
