i too found a huge peak at about 3,000hz with the mx450s. a cut of ~14dB(!), with q width=~5 pretty much eliminates it for me. not sure if you can adjust the EQ with those parameters (i use kxdrivers with an sblive), but you may be able to do it with foobar2000's equaliser. hope that helps

speaking of new audio-technica 'phones: ad2000, ad1000, ad900. looking at the pics & model numbers ("AD-"), they seem to be all open. also due for november too, apparently. (hopefully this isn't a repost )

i think j-curve's thread is what you're looking for the a500 - a900 are on the first page (alongside a lot of other A-T cans.)
