    Rectifier tube squeal

I built a Bijou amp a few years ago, and find it performs well for me and provides a satisfying sound. It sits on my desk, and provides me my sonic distractions during my workday. Today, I noticed a high-pitched squeal. It wasn't in the audio output. It was in the room. After hunting around, I...

    Cavalli audio Bijou PCB layout

Have you seen the 'old' thread? https://www.head-fi.org/threads/bijou-all-tube-futterman-headphone-amplifier.277541 The last couple pages of that thread discuss the resources you seek. But digging around in the Wayback Machine, I see this...

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

Is this going to be a fully enclosed chassis? That is, front-mounted controls with everything inside the case and nothing protruding? If so, those caps are going to make it pretty tall, aren't they?

    Post pics of your builds....

I decided that I could live with square heatsinks, and if I didn't get moving, this project might die on the bench. I want to get it cased up so I can listen to it again :) The heat sinks are from Enzotech (designed for RAM). The top plates are MDF. The Jade green leather is from...

    Post pics of your builds....

This is more a "work in progress" than a completed build, but I'm getting closer. My Bijou has been in a "temporary" case for about six months as I decide on a case design and find the materials for its permanent home. The chassis is going to be of Alaskan Yellow Cedar, with jade-green leather...

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

Detaching the mosfets (Q1 and Q2) from the power supply board will let me relocate them in my case and provide better heat sinking. There are significant voltages present on the legs, but if they are adequately insulated, should I expect any bad behavior by adding 3" of pig-tail to them?

SOHA II in 2014? Looking to build an amp this summer.

You will find my name in a couple of places in those old SOHA II threads.   Now that my SOHA II is done and solid, I have nothing bad to say about it. It has several options for building, isn't too expensive, and Glass Jar Audio will sell you a PC board for it. Mine is used daily on my desk at...

    SOHA II troubleshooting

And I'll add a little more. The behavior after that work was an improvement, but ultimately still not perfect. If the board temperature was below 70F or exceeded 120F, it would cut out. I improved the behavior by installing a baffle in the case between the power supply section and the tube...

    DIY Headphone Amp options

I built a Mini^3 a few years ago and find it very enjoyable. It was my first SMD build, but it went together very well. I paired mine with a Grub DAC, but that was before the Carrie was available. I think I actually have all the parts for a Carrie kicking around here somewhere. I wonder where I...

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

My Bijou has passed its smoke-test and is currently making music   I have it encased in a plastic toolbox. The boards are screwed to the under side of the lift-out tray. There is space to store the transformer under the tray, but I need to lift it out to kill the hum while it is playing. I'm...

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

It isn't so much a question of 'need' as of 'want'. I can't see any reason to leave those caps charged if it is simple to discharge them. Sure, I can look around for a suitable resistor every time I open the case, but it seems simpler to just build it in and be done with it.     Which is...

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

I'm making progress on my Bijou :)   The power supply was finished a few days ago and is comfortably driving a test load. I had a few hours of depression when all of the AC input was perfect but I wasn't able to detect any output from the power supply. But after stepping away from the bench...

    Make your own vacuum tubes?

This is beautiful! He takes DIY to a special level, but I notice he appears to be using commercially drawn wire. Maybe he doesn't have a the furnace necessary to smelt his own iron ore and create steel for drawing :)

Bijou All Tube Futterman Headphone Amplifier

I'm thinking about casing options for a Bijou, specifically the power supply, and even more specifically heat management. It looks to me like the big-power items are the rectifier tube, mosfets, and a couple of power resistors.  I'm expecting to place the EZ81 in open air, but want to make sure...

    SOHA II troubleshooting

I'm going to add to this ancient thread because I'm the originator and I think I may finally have gotten to the bottom of my cutouts. I've poked at my SOHA off and on over the years, but recently bought a better loupe and resoldered anything which looked even remotely marginal. This improved...
