Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

it's beeen released for iOS yes, but this is tVOS aka Apple TV. So think of theater watching. Plex/Infuse and the usual apps will need to add support, but hopefully it'll be forthcoming or work arounds will be in place. Obviously it won't compete against what Impulficer can do for pure realism...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Just FYI for anyone into all this - Apple's new tVOS 15 will enable spatial audio with head tracking for the Air Pods Pro. Quite excited about that!

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

One of my old laptops had the issue - I'll try it on that tomorrow when I get some time. Saw you active on the Git - nice to see a few updates. It's mostly perfect as is.

    Creative Super X-Fi headphone holography

There's a new soundbar out with SXFI Built in - including Atmos channels. Sounds pretty exciting: https://uk.creative.com/p/speakers/creative-sxfi-carrier Seems like you plug in any headphones via 3.5mm or SXFI Theater headphones for wireless. Bit annoying they don't have regular bluetooth...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Yep! If it's one thing Impulcifer has taught me it's that your other senses "hear". Hearing is a multi sensory experience - I've cited it before but my HRIR I generate in my theater sounds IDENTICAL to the real thing in the same room. I took that same HRIR into a cafe (pre covid!) and it sounded...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

I came across this reddit post that seems a great idea in principle to translate headphones from one to another. You just put your over ear headphone into one ear and your IEM into the another ear and perform equal loudness adjustments in EAPO. Mr Pasanen, would there be any way we can...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

If you want to lift the bass you can add a manal EQ to boost bass frequencies. The quiet HRIR's are an issue I experience too. Equalizer APO seems to run out of headroom for all the EQing Impulcifer needs. I can't just simply preamp boost in EAPO because you get clipping. My only solution is to...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

pfzar thanks for posting those papers. The brain uses multiple senses to get an idea where a sound is coming from. In nature i've noticed that head tilting is important. But in small rooms it isn't. If you look at a dog trying to locate a sound - that's an extreme example of what we do.

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Absent of any reflections the center channel would actually be pretty hard to locate. Been happily using Impulcifer for months now. Risen to 50% of my viewing/listening. Next door house is a construction site and my cellar below me is having to have industrial extraction fan to cope with the...

    Grado Wireless Series

I've been using these a lot more recently for Impulcifer use. On ear headphones are the best for loudspeaker virtualization and they have a great FR consistency up to 10khz due to lack of pinnae interaction. They also have output all the way to 20hz, which is rare for open backs. Very important...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

It's not hard to code something that'll encode a sweep into a chosen channel layout! Impulcifer does it, and it's free. It's limit to only bed channels of course, because Windows has no channel output support of Atmos. I believe what the hold up might be is that the Atmos encoder is costly...

Recording Impulse Responses for Speaker Virtualization

Been using my AfterShokz Aeropex for a lot of spoken word stuff on my phone. Decided to throw one of my BRIR's from Impulcifer for watching talking head YouTube videos at my desk. Pretty amazing how realistic the BRIR is when your ear is completely unobstructed and you forgot you're wearing...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Can't help with the Smyth but I understand your pain. I'm pro-actively taking binural sweep recordings of a room of min that I'll eventually loose because I want to "preserve it". If you use Impulcifer you can generate recordings if you buy a binural mic and recording interface for your PC. A...

Not an A16 user, but Impulcifer. On ear headphones give the best simulation I can get. My Grado GW100's that are open back are amazingly realistic. Compared to my Phliips Fidelio or DT990's - the on ear does sound more realistic. David Grisinger has some info on this in his presentation. It's...

Putting a pricing analyst hat on. Most likely due to the fact they can't ramp up supply. They are obligated to fulfill the pre-orders first. Setting a true market price, while they can't ramp up supply wouldn't be helpful. Anyone that wants to jump can pay the full price - so it's bonus for...
