Chord Electronics - Blu Mk. 2 - The Official Thread

Another one to consider: https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/chuya-online/item/91828/?l-id=rgm_item_en_rvp_widget Oyaide makes good stuff generally and this isn't too pricy.

5998,6080,7236 or 6as7, that is the question. Also have 6sn7 vs c3g to decide, need to be productive before the clock strikes midnight!

It’s New Year’s Eve, an important decision surely but I’ve decided that I will ring in 2018 with my Glenn OTL amp playing my favourite tunes at midnight in a couple of hours. Hopefully next year I’ll do the same thing but with the GEL3N. Hope everyone has a great new year ahead!

If you’re going down this route I’d rather get a HE6 4 screw to complement your hd800. The hd650 is inferior to the hd800. Better tone, yes, but still inferior in terms of soundstage and detail. It also sounds veiled in comparison. The HD800 is outstanding, but the HE6 brings a visceral...

Having 'been there, done that' with respect to tube rolling (I have three tall drawers full of tubes), these days I don't bother. It's not that it doesn't matter, but you'll see that most of the 'best tubes' are old production, and somehow though everyone claims to be selling 'NEW Old Stock'...

I see you live in Tokyo. Lucky. They are really pricy outside of Japan, but I love my Airtight and Almarro amps. Sell the Schiit amp (you can keep the DAC), hunt down a Japanese tube amp equipped with Japanese output trafos, and hook up your HE1000 via an adaptor. Bliss.

I'm only into headphones not speakers because of a lack of space. Anyway for your sake, I hope your story ends with the word "tubes".

Yup, the devil keeps kicking in for me, so 'safe' is not quite what I'm looking for. :P

Personally, I think the IEM industry has a lot less variety. Much less fun. On desktop gear you have great dynamic cans, great planar cans, great electrostats, open and closed designs; low and high impedance. Then you have the tube DHT SET amps, the OTL amps, the hybrid amps, the solid state...

Great amp, good choice. Was just listening to it last night, very musical and romantic presentation! I also like that it's small. I'd also put EC in the same level as Apex, although they don't do hybrid designs.

Agreed. Very detailed and precise, but I would still pick up the HD800 over my Utopia for the soundstage. The Utopia sounds very IEM-like in terms of its soundstage.
