    Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread

Oh, and the best part.... I kept the nifty clamp-on headphone holder that came with the HD595s. Still clamped to the same spot on the side of the desk, right above the D/A converter and headphone amp..... :)

    Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread

So I took my 8 year old HD595s, that I've used every single day since I got them, and sent them off for the flat-fee Sennheiser repair service when one of the arms holding an earpiece broke. These headphones were shot. They still sounded great, but the pads and headband and every part on them...

    Sennheiser HD 598 Impressions Thread

Well, I've logged a lot of miles with my old 595's. About six or seven years of daily use, as near as I can tell. Mostly driven by a Meier Audio headphone amp. So, I am VERY familiar with the 595's.   Alas, two days ago, the plastic arm holding one of the ear cups broke. Not surprising as...

Heard the HD-595 for the first time today.

If you guys want to make your HD-595s sing, try this "foam" modification towards the end of this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=230079 Cures the upper mid and high frequency glare and makes the soundstage huge.

Is lack of amplification my problem with the Senn 595?

The Sony V6 is not an accurate headphone. It's like listening with the treble and bass EQ boosted and exaggerated. If you are used to that kind of exaggerated sound, the HD-595 is probably not going to sound very exciting at first.

I've got my Senn HD650s, but there must be something wrong

    HD555/H595 mod

Soundstage and imaging is almost entirely a function of time response, specifically the precise arrival times of fundamentals and harmonic overtones at the ear. Those are the clues the brain uses to locate sounds. Any modification that reduces "time smearing" will increase the size of the...

    HD555/H595 mod

The way to think about the foam is that it is like an old-fashioned tone control for the reflected sound. It doesn't attenuate bass at all, but it does attenuate higher frequencies -- a slight amount in the midrange, increasing with rising frequencies. Anyone who has added or removed foam pads...

Thinking about the HD-595's or the HD-580's?

I don't know for sure, but my understanding is that the V600 is just a repackaged V6 -- new headband, etc. Same basic headphone.

Quote: Are the modding correct? I got foam from old earpads and cut it to stripes ang glued them in... Looks good! Excellent job. I started with a big round circle of foam in the center, but I think your approach -- using strips of foam -- may be even easier. You can also put foam...
