Toxic Cables - Impressions and Discussion Thread

Late to this news so I doubt I'll receive a reply but.... If you knew him that well and had a personal history with him: 1. Did anyone actually find out what happened to Frank? 2. Is there an obituary available (as has been the case with any death of someone I knew well and for whom I wanted a...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Haven't posted in quite some time, (so did it wrong initially ;) I landed on your write up here while contemplating/searching out the possible purchase a new DAC after years of using an incomplete resolution and non DSD model. Just wanted to say that if I had the discipline to write an article...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

At normal (ie lower) listening volume I also often prefer the signature of the HD58X for certain genres and (as one example) listening to TV dialogue. As fare as "scaleabity" goes; I don't know if you have access to a balanced set-up but if you want to truly hear how well the HD600/650 scale...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Not sure what thist quote means but regardless... Graphs are often notoriously misleading/unhelpful for subjective perception, as they can appear near identical between very different sounding headphones. IMO the biggest difference between these cans is pretty subjective as well, due to people...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I'd agree... if you're using a good amp and listen at relatively high volume. Otherwise, for an all-rounder headphone (especially for portable or un-amped use) I'd go with the HD58X; but I own and will keep both ;)

    Matrix Mini-i Pro Impressions?

Honestly, I haven't gotten around to buying mine yet!    I really don't know if the Gustard would benefit the new model or not as it already has the USB hi res capability that was missing in the earlier units.   I imagine the Gustard might have better USB/SPDIF conversion but I really...

    Matrix Mini-i Pro Impressions?

If you have (or buy) the old Mini-I with the AD1955 DAC chip and add this very well reviewed  Gustard USB->SPDIF converter http://www.ebay.ca/itm/251688780563?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=550594659334&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT    it is an easy and inexpensive fix to add Hi Res & DSD ->...

Toxic Cable Silver Widow vs Silver Poison?

I use a balanced Silver Poison with the Senn HD650s and it helps with definition and impact in the lower frequencies and increased clarity in the upper range. I've tried other silver and "plated" cables but this is an actual silver cable with a small percentage of gold. For some reason it seems...

    Matrix Mini-i Pro Impressions?

The only reason to have 24 bit capability is to play hi resolution audio files. As most movies I know of don't use 24 bit resolution (unless BluRay over HDMI) it is unnecessary to update your Mini-i. The unit sends Dolby Digital over the coax (bypass) so you can get surround if you use a...

    Comparison / Review : A tale of two Sennheisers – HD600 vs HD700

Kind of a "Zombie" thread but I ran into some HD700s for sale and came to the obvious place for some reviews/comparisons. Before even seeing this graph, the descriptions I read regarding the 700 vs the 600 sounded very much like differences between the 600 and 650. Granted, there was more talk...

Toronto Winter 2014 Meet-up (great) photos, & Impressions

Hey guys,   Canuck57 (Brian) gave me the low down on the meet and I have to say, I wish I was more mobile and could have been there. I live in London On. now (cheap rent) so I miss most of the fun ;(  A quick Hi to Bryan and Pat...it's been quite awhile and I'm hoping to be able to catch up...

Reply to review by 'hellenback' on item 'Sennheiser HD 650 Headphones'

@ spiderking31   It's good to hear from someone with a similar feeling for these great cans. You're certainly not alone in your assessment and appreciation of them.   A good friend of mine who owns both the HD800s and LCD2 rev.2 still gives plenty of head-time to his balanced HD650s. When you...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

As far as cables not making any difference goes, I used to believe the same thing until I did some pretty convincing comparisons. Even with my limited income I shelled out for a (lightly used) silver/gold cable which to my ears adds a bit more clarity and definition to the 650s. They...
