I got a latest RE board yesterday and let it burn-in overnight. As to sq, John has put it very well yet I have to add that this RE sounds much better than other RE boards I have heard, simply unbelievable in everything. After 24 hours burn-in, the newest RE sounds slightly on the cold side, but...

There are two things Xin's still testing, including a 12000uf Panasonic FC cap. In the 2nd beta Xin's using a 15000uf Nichicon.

The 2nd RE sounded very soft, or you can put it as "tube-like" out of box. It's the opposite from what I expected. After one night's burn-in, it opened up a lot yet its soundtage was very wide without the depth as in Micro. Xin told me that he ran out of parts for some caps and for whatever...

After a whole night's burn-in, RE is already a winner over Micro. IMHO, it has almost all virtues of Micro yet have an overall warmer, more tube-like, bigger, and more powerful presentation.

The very first batch of RE has the same circurt scheme as Macro LE, and that's why I found it sounded closer to LE other than Micro. After 5/19, Dr. Xin made some critical changes to the RE to make it closer to Micro. Even so, they are still very different. From the email in the past two days...

The current going through the batteries in Macro's with 8 AAA's or 4 AAA's is the same. The difference is 8AAA's have more headroom in voltage. Big cap lower the impedance of power supply further. 15000uf has 0.5ohm at 20HZ. Plus 4 AAA's have 1/2 internal imedance of that of 8AAA's. I...
