Woo Audio WA3 Impressions and Tube-Rolling

Has anyone used the triple mica 6N1P-E in their WA3? (The Russian letters look like 6H1n-E) I've tried a couple pairs and the tube I put in the left side fails to heat up or produce any sound even when I then swap the two tubes positions. I haven't seen that with any other 6922 variants...

It's different than either of those but is a compatible substitute in some amps. The amplification factor and transconductance are higher than a 6080/6AS7. I think they were made for use in computers

I have a pair, they are among the best I've tried. Those are what sent me down the rabbit hole of Russian tubes. I bought a pair of 6N1P-Es on eBay which sounded very very good until one only produced a quiet hum. They didn't have quite the same musicality as some of the 6922s but the...

Woo Audio WA3 Impressions and Tube-Rolling

When buying rectifier tubes I find it's not uncommon to get a tube that produces no sound or it produces a loud hum, especially with tubes from Ebay. Could this be a sign of problems in the amplifier or just bad tubes? Is there any way to attempt to fix these? Or any risk? I'm considering...

Did you mean to write 1/transconductance? For the 6AS7 that would be 1/7000 which is around 0.000143 Edit: what I missed is that there's some kind of conversion from 0.000143 micromhos to 142ohms

Here are some cousins! 6H23N-EB Silver Shields from '88. The sound is something like you described, very detailed and crisp. You said it much more artfully! :beerchug: On a side note, has anyone here tried (or ever seen?) a 7802? It seems similar to the 6080 family but the amplification...

Here's the Cetron 5998A in action with 2 Russian 6N1P-EBs. This 5998A looks like a Tung-Sol 7236 with a few pieces missing but the datasheet says it's electrically the same as the 5998. The sound is similar to both, with deep powerful bass and a wide open soundstage.

I recently purchased a Bendix 6080WB with slotted graphite plates and felt extravagant spending almost $130 on a 6080 tube, but $2000 for a pair is insane! I wonder how they sound though... 🤔💸 It's funny how the metal plate ones cost more than the graphite plates.

There are some old videos about SAGE on YouTube, I kept pausing them trying to get a good look at the tubes! 😂

Recently I bought two untested Chatham Electronics JAN CAHG 6AS7G, one looks normal and this is the other. Those aren't just black lines across the getter filaments, they're actually cut or broken. The getter flashing looks about the same as the other tube so I'm not too concerned but...

Has anyone pulled one of these tubes from an old piece of equipment, besides an audio amplifier? I'm curious about what these tubes were specifically used for. This information seems to be pretty scarce. Here's what I've found so far: The Tung-Sol 7236 was allegedly used in the SAGE radar...

I've had great experiences buying tubes from eBay sellers. As long as they have a high feedback rating and a high volume of feedback it will probably be fine. Their feedback ratings are worth a lot to them. I've bought a few dozen tubes and only had to message the sellers a couple of times...
