SONY NW-ZX2
Absolutely. I would like to add that you can save a lot of money by purchasing a cheaper player with digital output (such as ZX1, A-series, F-series Walkman) and using them as a transport with an external DAC/Amp. If you can cope with the extra bulk, it's certainly possible to achieve similar...- fonzler

Thanks for your input. 1. I just found it odd that the default music app read the files flawlessly when I demoed the unit and now that I have my own, it doesn't. I used a tagger program (Tag & Rename, MP3Tag doesn't do AIFFs apparently) to resave the tag information on the files on...- fonzler

SONY NW-ZX2
Hi All, I just received my ZX2 today, but am having a few issues and was wondering if anyone would be able to enlighten me. First thing I did after turning the unit on was to update the system software (bad move?), then loaded on some music. It was at this point I realised: 1. My unit...- fonzler

EarSonics Velvet universal custom in ear monitor with three sound tuning options
I have auditioned the Velvet/Litz combo and concur with this. I found the bass to be tighter and more controlled than the stock cable, with improved imaging and slightly wider sound stage.- fonzler

You want something like the Fiio L5 LOD cable. I believe companies like Bispa also make similar cables and you can also buy the spare parts if you want to try making it yourself.- fonzler

I was under the impression that the ZX2 (and other Walkman products) did have line out capability, but you need to purchase/make a WM-port to 3.5mm cable in order to use it.- fonzler

I believe this warning has to do with Japanese regulations for wifi devices and other equipment that emits a radio signal. Products sold in Japan are supposedly tuned such that they will not use frequencies reserved for other types of signals (radio broadcasts, emergency communications etc)...- fonzler

EarSonics Velvet universal custom in ear monitor with three sound tuning options
From the photo, it looks like the tuning dials on the Crystal Edition are made of metal, which is a good sign. Did anyone else have a problem with the grooves on soft plastic dials on the original wearing away over time? Also, it looks like it is open for pre-order from Musica Acoustics...- fonzler

Review by 'fonzler' on item 'EarSonics Velvet'
IEMs with tuneable sound seem to be getting more popular nowadays with offerings from brands like JH Audio, AAW and Vision Ears. The downside, however, is that most of these offerings are custom IEMs, adding the inconvenience of impressions and lead time to the equation. It certainly doesn’t...- fonzler

Cowon Plenue P1
I should give the caveat that the first time I heard the AK240 was on the weekend and it had the shortest audition time out of the three due to the huge line at the Astell & Kern booth, so please take my impressions with a grain of salt. At the same time, I think it's also possible...- fonzler

Cowon Plenue P1
Thanks for the info, Wayneshrine. Please keep us updated on how you go with the P1. I am quite keen on making it my next portable player (based on my brief audition) in the absence of anything new in the same rough price range.- fonzler

Cowon Plenue P1
Straight out of the box, I would say the AK240 is the most detailed and spacious sounding. As many people have mentioned, the Calyx M is quite warm sounding, but at the same time is also provides plenty of detail and great instrument separation - so much so that I really didn't mind the warmth...- fonzler

Cowon Plenue P1
I tried both the Plenue 1 and Calyx M at the e-earphone Portable Audio Festival in Tokyo over the weekend and was able to speak to respective company representatives and also current owners of both units. Calyx owners complained of slow operation and short battery life amongst other bugs...- fonzler
