I've had both and they are very similar. Basically, the 900's are just a linear all around upgrade to everything good about the 700's.

I seemingly was in the same position you were in a month or so ago. I thought I was going to get in and get what I needed and get out for ~$200. Well what I wound up with was a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000 open air phones and a pair of Denon AH-D2000's which wound up getting recabled and...

Just picked up a pair of ATH-AD2000's from a nice guy off the board. I haven't had much time to listen to them but I can tell you that there is quite a linear difference in sound quality vs the ATH-AD900's. Waiting to get my Denon D2000's back from recabling and custom wood caps so I can enjoy...

Can you comment on if the XB-1000's bass takes over the whole headphone? I like trance because of the rezzy super sonic transparent synths and all the layering that is in the music. Would the bass on these headphones take over everything?
