ZMF Caldera Closed
There have been a few comments about the CC being warmer than the CO, which I believe is correct. One thing we found during tuning was that the CC actually had quite a bit more treble than the CO and we needed to dial it down. We accomplished that through various means, one of which was a...- AnyDave

It's not that little, actually. The KT8Cs I have here are nearly as tall as my EL38s and they are wider. FWIW, I've used them in both the Aegis (DIY and ZMF production version) as well as the Cayin HA-6A in the EL34/KT66 bias position without issue.- AnyDave

Haha, bummer. I was going to hit you up on the rectifiers. I don't even own an HA300, but I expect I probably will at some point.- AnyDave

Man, those are some funky shaped KT88s. I don't think I've seen anything like those. I kind of dig it.- AnyDave

Transformers make a significant difference in the sound of a tube amp and the Lundahl transformers are top notch. Luckily, Cayin did a good job with making custom transformers and it's very difficult to tell the difference between the two. ZMF brought both to CanJam and the general impressions...- AnyDave

The only problem is, when missing half your head, it's harder to get a good seal with the pads. It kind of negates the benefits of closed back headphones. So, I'm going to take a controversial stance and go on record that it's better to use open back headphones if half of your head is missing.- AnyDave

Yep, that's definitely the case. My guess is that you're in pretty good shape with pentodes right now, I was just reminded of the GEC KT8C when you posted your picture of the GEC 807, so I was curious if you had compared them.- AnyDave

That's always hard to quantify as it's definitely circuit specific. They are very smooth, robust sounding tubes with a nice bottom end. In the near future, I'll do a more formal comparison between the GEC KT8C, GEC KT66 and Mullard EL37 (and possibly Mullard EL38). I think that would be a...- AnyDave
