If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

The good/bad news about the virtues of the 4XR is that to step up from there I think I'll need to spend a ton of money. Diminish returns. There are a few $600 sets that might be worth it, and then we're in Andromeda territory. But below that? Not sure.

I love my 4XR for classical, plus I also sometimes listen to other genres. In this case I'm asking for a friend. That said, the reviews of the ER2 series are so good I'm tempted to pick them up to try them and to get a better sense of the virtues of dynamic. I don't see the point of the ER3...

For 100% classical: Er2 se or XR? Classical has bass, and it's important. But it has to be in the right proportion.

Etymotic Research EVO impressions and discussion thread

I can imagine hanging on to my ER4XR for travel, given the extraordinary isolation. I've literally used them as ear plugs. I'm sure I would like ether Evo. I'm just wrestling with if I would like them enough to justify to myself spending the money. I mean, the Er4XR is so good i figure if I buy...

Etymotic Research EVO impressions and discussion thread

Thanks. I think I've read your review a dozen times. I particular appreciate your comments on Mahler, being a classical freak. My benchmark for symphonic music is Saint-Saëns' organ symphony, given the scale of the music and the range of instruments from the organ to piccolo. It's music that...

Etymotic Research EVO impressions and discussion thread

Thanks. I keep reading negative things about the treble. What about mids? Listening now to Bjorn's Vespertine on my ER4XR. Honestly the bass is fine. I think what i want is the Er4XR but with better soundstage and imagine. The FR I'd leave alone. PS. These work super well with a BTR5.

Etymotic Research EVO impressions and discussion thread

Er4xr lover here. What's the consensus? Will I notice the upgrade or is this merely a little different? The reviews are positive but not enthusiastic, though i perceive that might reflect MSRP. Basically, they are a tough sell at $500. But now they are closer to $300 on Amazon. Still, that's a...

Etymotic & Westone - Discussion & Impressions (index in 1st post)

Listening now to my ER4XR. Sibelius on Tidal. These things are superb. VERY good for classical, dispute the small stage. Excellent treble, tone, and imaging. Wonderfully clear and direct. And to my ears the perfect quantity of bass and sub-bass for the genre. Jazz also is superb, for the same...

Just posting to express how much pleasure I get from my ER4XRs. I've been on a jazz kick lately and started listening to Miles Davis. Mostly I use my HD660s, which I think are great. But then just now I plugged in the Etys largely to shut out the sounds of some construction work being done...

I bought a pair recently and really loved them (use with Tin T2s), but recently I stopped being able to use them for phone calls (phone or whatsapp or Signal). They work for media, but not calls. What gives? Any ideas?

Campfire Audio - Holocene and Mammoth

I haven't heard any IEMs in the $300 and above price bracket. It remains a mystery to me what that kind of money buys.

Campfire Audio - Holocene and Mammoth

Those were both factors in my recent decision to buy Etymotics. It helped, though, that by all accounts my ER4XRs are in fact competitive for the price I bought them.

Campfire Audio - Holocene and Mammoth

So, here's what I want to know about Holocene: Given that ChiFi is blowing up any notions of what constitutes a good value for money, is a $600 Campfire remotely competitive with a $300 Blessing 2, let alone a $600 ChiFi IEM?

I bought a pair a few months ago and really, really like them. Definitely prefer them to the HD650. They are closer to the HD600, but I think there's a clear edge, especially with respect to bass and imaging. So, yes, better than both the 600 and 650. And I prefer them to my DT880s. Not a ton...
