    HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

Yeah, the Vegans are not what you're looking for. I'd personally recommend the flat Brainwavz HM5 Hybrid ear pads - they're the closest to stock velour I've tried so far.

Nah, sorry mate. I haven't gotten around to it. I'll chuck 'em on now and will report back soon with my subjective impressions :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It's fairly easy to be subjective about frequency response between two headphones, actually. I mean not long ago, bobbyblack and I disagreed about the bass on the HE-6. He said it had lighter bass than the HE-500, to which I 100% disagree. At first I figured he may have just heard the headphones...

Researching is great. Be careful of expectation bias, though. Also, what are these objective comparisons you speak of? Beyond measurements, that is.

That statement on dynamics is pretty questionable lol. Oh, I didn't realise you hadn't actually heard an HE-6 before. This changes things. I was just saying that from my subjective experience, I personally prefer the HE-6 (also, I forgot to mention that my HE-6 is pad-swapped and lightly...

Lighter bass? HE-6 has harder hitting bass, in my experience. Even when both driven from the same source equipment (e.g. NAD M51 and Schiit Mjol 1). HE-6 is more dynamic overall. I completely understand taking issue with the brighter presentation and essentially needing a speaker amp though...

Well, as I mentioned, I now have an HE-6. I have no need for the HE-500 lol.

I have only tried the flat hybrids. Well, I've tried the Cascadia Audio Impact Pads, but not the Brainwavz angled hybrids. As for the full velour, I think I have both a flat and angled pair, so I'll try those and see how I go. Keep in mind that I no longer have my HE-500, though, so I'll be...

The oval Brainwavz pads definitely fit. Just takes a lot of stretching to get those Hifiman ring adapters in there. The Cascadia Audio Impact Pads fit so damn easily in comparison.

I really like them. They're my favourite balance of great comfort and sound quality so far. Cheap, too. I wrote about how they compare to the Alpha pads here: I have since gotten my hands on a pair of the standard velour pads, and they're pretty similar to the hybrids. The velour pads are a...

Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

Brainwavz oval pads fit, but require a fair amount of stretching. Changes the sound quite a bit, though. Round pads would fit better. I'd probably avoid using angled pads, since the drivers themselves are already angled. So far, it seems the A900Z/A990Z pads are the best alternative for the...

Nah, Audeze Vegan pads just kill the treble. For what it's worth, my personal favourite alternative to the stock velour pads so far are the flat Brainwavz HM5 Hybrid pads.

I wrote up an impressions thread on the A900x vs A900z here, for anyone who's curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/73c8ji/the_time_has_come_a900z_vs_a900x/ Interestingly enough, the A900z (and A990z) actually come with slightly different ear pads.
