  Volume knob position is material dependent.  Stuff that has never seen a compressor tends to be higher, modern loudness war masters will be lower.  Usually I'm listening to the former.  Hearing is still good to 17K and change.

I use the middle setting with the volume dial typically around 2PM. Lowest gain I find the transients a bit mushy, while on the highest they are too agressive.  Balanced input from Yggdrasil and balanced output as the balanced HP out on Ragnarok is superior to the SE.
