Is it common for a mic cable to have lower output than non mic? I just received my SONY MDR-1A and notice a difference in sound quality and output

I just received these cans new. After trying both cables (1 with mic 1 without) I noticed higher output and better quality from the non mic cable. Any ideas why? Is this normal? Do I have a defective mic cable?

Just received my Sony MDR-1A from eGlobal and I am very pleased. Shipped DHL 2 day with text alerts. Paid about 1/2 of Amazon cost and about the same as eBay used. Packing was excellent and very professional. Condition is obviously new. Working flawlessly and sound is great! [/IMG][/IMG]
