They're actually for a friend, and his main use will be gaming, music, and the occasional movie. I recommended the A700s, but he's curious if the D700s would suit his needs better, and I don't know much about them myself. Has anyone had experience with either of these headphones?   ...

I believe that open-design headphones have a greater soundstage than those that are closed. A greater soundstage could mean better accuracy at picking out a sound's location. Maybe that will help you in your decision.   Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
