RP-21 = My new best friend

I'd have to agree with all the above. Although I absolutely love the RP-21, when I first put on the Beyer DT-990 I went all weak at the knees. It was just plain magic.

    DT990: Tons of sibilance?

I'd suggest burning in a little more and see how you go. I am absolutely loving mine to bits. I bought them used, and I'm not sure how much time was on them before, but they just sound magic to me. That said, I'm a bit of a "treble head" I guess. I love some sparkle. Please note that I am...

    EQUATION AUDIO EARTOOLS: REVIEW

Beyer pads are significantly thicker, so it ought to help a bit.

    EQUATION AUDIO EARTOOLS: REVIEW

RP-21 has plenty (!!) of bass for me. I can't imagine I would be able to enjoy cans very much if they had more bass than that. May be just me though.

    EQUATION AUDIO EARTOOLS: REVIEW

Someone needs to mod the RP-21 drivers into some Senn HD-280 Pros. Then you'd have the isolation and the sound quality.

OK thanks guys. I think I'll pull the trigger on the medium Shure olives in that case. I will probably be using them back-to-front anyway and somebody mentioned this makes them fill the ear a bit more, so I guess it should work.

They do great without an amp IMO. You will, however, always have that niggling feeling "what if..." Sorry about your wallet I guess. As for tips, try out the ones in the box to see what you like (even different sizes/types for each ear might help), but lots of people have had great luck with...

    Beyerdynamic DT990 (ver.2005) Impressions Thread

Darn that looks like a good price. Unfortunately I'm in Australia and they don't ship here. Is there anywhere with a price like that who does? I'll bet there isn't, at least not with a decent shipping cost (B&H for instance would probably match that price but they will charge me ~US$60 for...

Shures new carrying case and their foamies.....

Those of you with hard cases, do you have the one with the cable spool thingy? I'm curious as to whether it's safe to use or if it would damage the cables in time (even given careful use).

Flage tips and foams - Fitting Questions

I can't seem to get comfortable with the flange tips. I've tried them all and given them a fair go I think, but I just can't get a reliable seal. If I move my head the sound often changes because the seal is marginal. So I swapped to the foamies, and I find it's a lot better. The smaller foamies...

Soloution to the world renowned "hissing sound"

I don't know. The source seems to have a noise floor which stays the same, so if you turn up the volume, the music gets louder but the hiss does not. So a good amp, or perhaps a volume attenuator would let you have your source up at the max volume so the signal to noise ratio is much better...

Thanks. I haven't received the M5's yet, so I'll wait and see, although I suspect the provided case will be a little big for what I need. I'm glad you warned me about the cable spool; I'll steer clear of that one.

Has anyone tried the shure carrying case with the M5? I'm wondering if it would work, and if so, whether the E2/E3 one would work (the one with the cable winder thingy), or whether the E4 case would be better (the one without the winder)? I want a good way to store these things before...
