I'd have to agree with all the above. Although I absolutely love the RP-21, when I first put on the Beyer DT-990 I went all weak at the knees. It was just plain magic.

Beyer pads are significantly thicker, so it ought to help a bit.

RP-21 has plenty (!!) of bass for me. I can't imagine I would be able to enjoy cans very much if they had more bass than that. May be just me though.

Someone needs to mod the RP-21 drivers into some Senn HD-280 Pros. Then you'd have the isolation and the sound quality.

OK thanks guys. I think I'll pull the trigger on the medium Shure olives in that case. I will probably be using them back-to-front anyway and somebody mentioned this makes them fill the ear a bit more, so I guess it should work.

Those of you with hard cases, do you have the one with the cable spool thingy? I'm curious as to whether it's safe to use or if it would damage the cables in time (even given careful use).

I can't seem to get comfortable with the flange tips. I've tried them all and given them a fair go I think, but I just can't get a reliable seal. If I move my head the sound often changes because the seal is marginal. So I swapped to the foamies, and I find it's a lot better. The smaller foamies...

I don't know. The source seems to have a noise floor which stays the same, so if you turn up the volume, the music gets louder but the hiss does not. So a good amp, or perhaps a volume attenuator would let you have your source up at the max volume so the signal to noise ratio is much better...
