Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)
Hello, just had a couple questions. I first owned the DT880 pro 250ohm a few years ago. Went to it from a Grado SR80 and while the Grado was very dynamic and nice mids the highs were overly aggressive and the lows took a nosedive after the midbass hump. The DT880 was very smooth top to bottom...- AzraelDarkangel

Grado style raw drivers?
I'm aware Bronze is heavy, thats part of why I said I'm not sure how practical it would be yet. I've seen those Grado style Bronze (or brass?) gimbals before, but couldnt find them for sale anywhere. Franco Serblin is dead btw. Though I suppose his family or Sonus Faber could sue me if they want...- AzraelDarkangel

Grado style raw drivers?
It will be awhile before I can even start it as I'm moving in a couple months to Washington state. Next step is to aquire more headphones and amps for a baseline reference. It's a design I've had in mind for a few years. It's a rectangular design, sort of like Stax with a big internal volume and...- AzraelDarkangel

Grado style raw drivers?
Thanks for the link. I'm doing a semi-closed but vented with multiple types of damping to tune it. Totally custom driver housing ear-cup section. Its a long term project. I'm not starting it till this winter or spring when I start prototyping. I don't want to go into too much detail but its a...- AzraelDarkangel

Grado style raw drivers?
Elleven Acoustics Epsilon G1 vs Symphones V8.1 vs Turbulent X vs Nhoord Red I can barely keep up with them all! Anyway I'm looking into raw drivers for my own headphone project which will be completely different than Grado, more like Fostex TH-XXX or Denon DXX00 series but larger enclosure (but...- AzraelDarkangel

Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread
Wait, what? Overly warm in stock form? My whole issue with the T90 in stock is the rising response all through the upper range and overly forward upper mids through treble. Its harsh and in your face to an almost painful level and I used to own lower end Grado. I loved the detail on the T90's...- AzraelDarkangel

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Not common for headphone amps, but common for bigger amps. It can take KT88's and that whole family. Tons of tube options there (and can get really expensive)- AzraelDarkangel

Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread
Even my Little Dot 1+ (with upgraded tubes and op-amps) helps the T90. The thicker pads help and I removed the front felt and put it behind the driver. Serious sound absorbing mods like they do with the Fostex would probably help too. There is nothing seriously wrong with the sound and its...- AzraelDarkangel

Is the LD 1+ decent enough? I read where someone said it wasn't a good match. Although mine is modded with the best op amps and good tubes.- AzraelDarkangel

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Was thinking of trying the HD650 and need a good amp. I currently have the Little Dot 1+ which isn't really ideal. Now in the short run, I would probably be limited to getting something like the Little Dot mkII. I just wanted to see if any new suggestions for amps for the HD650 have come up...- AzraelDarkangel

Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread
I should try the 1540 pads on the T90 and see if they fit better than the Audeze. The Audeze pads are so loose, they fall off easily.- AzraelDarkangel

The dt880 pads were better than the T90 pads IMO. The dt880 was the most comfortable headphones I ever wore when I first got them. But the Audeze micro-suede pads are a whole new level. Beyer pads are not really difficult to put on or take off. Easy to try other pads. I double check other pads...- AzraelDarkangel

Which is the best headphone you have (or have tried) in terms of price/quality ratio?
Beyer DT880 pro 250ohm. I paid $230 when I got mine several years back. Worked great even on my phone. I never really heard the infamous high frequency peak. Had the smoothest and most accurate tonal balance of any headphone I've heard. Wish I had heard it on a good tube amp, the mids were...- AzraelDarkangel
