Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
Yes I suppose it is unlikely I'd exceed. Though, the power amp is not on max, it will be limited significantly so it only gets to a certain loudness. Given that, it would be possible to exceed 1.4-2V because it could potentially be loud but not so loud I think it's the limit. I guess that can be...- aquaregia01

Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
I was thinking also about the power amp. With sensitivity = 1.4V, wouldn't going too far above fry it?- aquaregia01

Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
I just thought it would be safer to measure voltage with changing volume to find where it gets to 1.4V. Like, should I never go above 50 steps or 80 steps or 90 for example. Yes an XLR sub is appealing.- aquaregia01

Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
So I asked what voltages to expect for strictly USB input and got the response: "If the recorders had 0db recode, volume max, Preamp Variable output (balanced) : 10V RMS (max) Preamp Variable output (RCA) : 5V RMS (max)" Don't quite understand that.. So would measuring out voltage with a...- aquaregia01

Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
From emailing audio-gd it looks like: - Gain mode does affect the max voltage for XLR/RCA outputs, not just for headphone outputs (as above post said) - Gain mode does affect the fixed voltage output - The voltage depends on input (eg. XLR , USB) I am using USB input and XLR output. I guess...- aquaregia01

Pre outs confusion on Audio-gd NFB-28
EDIT: reworded a bit I really need some help with my 28.38, which I've had for a while but am now trying to use it as a preamp. I see it produces a maximum of 10V on XLR and 5V on rca. Ideally I will use XLR. 1. Do the gain modes H L F S change the maximum voltage of the pre outs (eg. F and S...- aquaregia01

Audio-gd NFB-29 as a pre-amp
Is the NFB-28 good as a single-ended amplifier? I know it's less power as SE.- aquaregia01

Audio-gd NFB-29 as a pre-amp
I believe so, on http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB29.38/NFB29.38EN_Use.htm it says "The button on rear : Pull out for the DAC / preamp without volume control , Push into for the DAC / Preamp with volume control. The headphone output always had the volume control. Please operate the...- aquaregia01

Audio-gd NFB-29 as a pre-amp
I think that's the button under input 4 on this link: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB29.38/NFB29H4.JPG Also - considering the NFB-28 - I have no idea if I'll ever bother with balanced -> headphones. Though having xlr pre outs would be good -> compatible stax amp. Another thing is...- aquaregia01

Audio-gd NFB-29 as a pre-amp
Looks like in the new NFB-29 there's just a button on the back to switch between fixed and variable. I guess it's switching all of the rear outputs to fixed or variable. Or are some outputs pre-defined as fixed or variable and the button just chooses which outputs are active.. Like if I have two...- aquaregia01

Audio-gd NFB-29 as a pre-amp
So in the UI (assuming there is a UI) you can set one RCA out individually as fixed and one as variable? That sounds good yes. I don't mind whether the amps are big or small. I think it comes down to this: At the same costs, will an Int amp or a HP-dac/amp have better DAC? (I think DAC's...- aquaregia01
