ZMF Aegis Official Thread
The warranty will be 5 years for components and 6 months for tubes. Things like cosmetic wear and tear aren't covered. If there are any warranty issues, the unit will come directly back to ZMF for service. Sending a 60lb overseas would be miserable and we don't want to do it that way either.- AnyDave

Have you tried GEC KT66s in there? I also really like the TS 6550 and Mullard EL37, but the KT66s might be my favorite.- AnyDave

The black has less damping, so it lets more treble through.- AnyDave

Yeah, I would love to see a commercial Airmid'ish OTL at some point. But, for now, the Aegis is a nice consolation prize.- AnyDave

I've currently have the luxury of comparing the Aegis and the Airmid (I have Zach's on loan). They are both wonderful amps. If I had to choose one, it would be the Aegis due to its ability to drive basically anything, but in a perfect world I'd have both.- AnyDave

Yeah, I personally think the treble is too much with nothing on there. If you ask Zach, he'll probably send you out a different mesh with a lower value damper, which is probably the safer bet. I believe that particular mesh is going to be offered with the tuning kit. It's a tad brighter than...- AnyDave

You don't need to remove any screws; it's attached with adhesive. Carefully peel it off so that you can put it back on later. Also, I would be careful not to put your fingers on the mesh itself.- AnyDave

Aegis DIY Tube Headphone Amplifier
Wouldn't you want some sort of anodizing on it? Straight brushed aluminum has no protection on it at all; it would be a fingerprint magnet and tarnish over time (which could look cool).- AnyDave

There have been a few comments about the CC being warmer than the CO, which I believe is correct. One thing we found during tuning was that the CC actually had quite a bit more treble than the CO and we needed to dial it down. We accomplished that through various means, one of which was a...- AnyDave

It's not that little, actually. The KT8Cs I have here are nearly as tall as my EL38s and they are wider. FWIW, I've used them in both the Aegis (DIY and ZMF production version) as well as the Cayin HA-6A in the EL34/KT66 bias position without issue.- AnyDave
