Ageing of Headphones: My Experience with XB500

Thought I'd share this with you:   When XB500 got discontinued, I quickly ordered a new one from Amazon by paying $10 more than the first one.   The first one was purchased in 2011, and has been extensively used till now; the headband is looser, gold plating on plug has given away to nickel...

XB500 actually sounds much better after burn in

Disclaimer: I'm not an audiophile by any means. I can't hear anything above 17kHz.   I ordered one XB500 last December. Initially I didn't like it very much due too the bloated bass and nonexistent mids/highs. I fiddled with the EQ unsuccessfully thinking it was a bad purchase. However, as...

    Xb500 Conclusion & XB600-XB800 review.

Call me crazy, but I've ordered my 2nd pair of XB500 from Amazon once I heard they're discontinued. It will sit idle until my current XB500 wears out.   Yeah, the frequency response might be too colored, and that nasty sharp dip around 3kHz (also tested this with Sinegen) is impossible to EQ...

Safe volume level settings for XB500: Am I in danger?

My setup: Dell (Laptop) IDT Audio (Volume Control left at default 50%, fancy stuffs like SRS turned off) and equalizer set to this (may be too dull for others' taste).       I use MP3Gain to bring every track's average volume down to 89dB. I use WMP (again with all fancy controls...

Newbie here: "good" stereo speaker system for mp3 playback

Currently I'm using this EQ settings with my SRS-D8 and still feel its too bright for me. The lower midrange is just not there. Plus, the satellites are grossly underpowered compared to the sub. They are also highly directional. I really can't figure out how Sony has made such an awful...

Newbie here: "good" stereo speaker system for mp3 playback

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I'm fairly new to the world of avr's, I still don't know the meaning of terms like 'bi-wiring'. Things get complicated for me when I add a sub. Guess I've to add the power of the 2 main speakers and the sub, then get a receiver that can handle the power?

Newbie here: "good" stereo speaker system for mp3 playback

Hi all,   Don't know if this is the right place to ask. I mainly listen to electronic dance music. I have Sony XB-500 headphones for 6 months. Its certainly not audiophile quality but I can get warm pleasing sound after using some equalization. (some cut in 3-6kHz range, and a little in...
