Curious about Stax amps and "self bias" basics

Ok. My idea was something among the lines of "maybe I can get an uber headphone setup by only spending 200$ and get a speaker system with the deal" (or the other way around) The headphones are Gamma-pros.

Curious about Stax amps and "self bias" basics

Yes, especially wondered about the watts, thanks a lot! Apart from that, is the speaker amp and source crucial to the sound quality the headphones will deliver, or will it be (close to) an equally big jump in sound quality from lower range headphones (ie grado sr125) no matter what amp is used?

Curious about Stax amps and "self bias" basics

Hi, I just wonder a little about how self biased amps work. All I know (I believe) is that they need the current/power from loudspeaker amps (?) to drive them. My parents have this Stax headset and amp combo that has not been used for some years. Some the reason I wonder is in case that I...

AKG k412p vs. Koss Portapro [ especially tremble ]

I have not tried the k24/k412, but I used to like Portapros turned up on full volume for a crushing metal/punk sound. From what I remember: Compared to other headphones I have tried in about this price range (akg k26, the closed back version of the k24) portapros are not very defined/clear...

    M-Audio Q40 Impressions (long w/pics)

I have these, but I seem to maybe have problems with the cable. I am willing to learn the neccecary diy-stuff to fix it (and already have basic soldering tools), but I think I need some some sort on diagnosis on the problem first. At first I had to thighten/loosen the cable to the headphone...

Poll: Would you support a new forum called Budget-Fi?

I voted yes without reading the thread, but I really envisioned budget to be something like sub 300$ (for a complete rig) I might (despite doing low-labour work) be an over-paid scandinavian, who has little idea how to plan and keep a private budget anyway, but wouldnt a 100$ price limit...

Soundstage of AKG K271s, compared to Grados?

Thanks for the response. Im currently considering the K271, ATH a900 (or 700) and Denon 2000. The latter ones seems to get overall good reviews. The K271 are the easiest and cheapest to get in norway though. The denons would cost at least 50% more, not sure if I can afford them (read: if its...

Soundstage of AKG K271s, compared to Grados?

The K271s are widely discussed on this forum, and I've read some threads about them in comparisons to a900 and dt250, but as my only true headphone reference in this price range is Grado SR-125, Im having a hard time getting an idea what size their soundstage actually is. I consider buying...

Grado sr-125, would an (entry level) amp benefit its sound?

Grado sr-125, would an (entry level) amp benefit its sound?

Yeah, there seems to be many alternatives, perhaps too many :P But thanks, some of them I have read a little about. What did you think about the PA2V2, and how do you think they improved the sound in the 125s, compared to using them without an amp?

Grado sr-125, would an (entry level) amp benefit its sound?

I've had the Grado sr-125s for some time, mainly using my laptop (headphone out) as its source. Im only using them indoors, as outdoors I use a couple of cheap AKG-k26 closed phones. The volume is never a problem with the Grados, at least not with the laptop, so I only wonder about sound...
