Replaced the stock 12au7 in my HiFiMAN EF-5 amp with a clear top, side getter RCA. When I did an A/B, the RCA almost sounds too "tubey". Seems to lack definition but I'll check again. Also have a RFT EC882 on the way to compare.

I keep coming back to these Allied 6BZ7 made in Japan with gold pins, which sound great with the Amperex 7802....have not been able to find much on the Japanese tubes, wish I had more of them.

JAN Chatham 6AS7G, JAN Sylvania 6DJ8, and some brand new RFT EZ81 rectifiers thanks to a great suggestion from hodgjy.  So far this is one of my favorite tube combinations for my WA2.

Honestly, these tubes are GREAT.  The more I listen, the closer I get to saying that they've had a larger impact than rolling between my various power and preamp tubes.  The RFT's don't really add their own unique flavor like the various power and preamp tubes I have, they just straight up make things better.

Gone all Amperex this weekend. 6DJ8 Holland PQ A-Frame (Tektronix Aged) topped off with the 7802. Mellow vocals and delicate high end create an acoustic wonderland.......


...been listening to these all weekend and this is a killer bunch. The depth of the soundstage is outstanding. I may not roll anything else in for a while.

These are still a little green....NIB, unopened boxes, Brimar 6BQ7A made in England. Soundstage so far seems a little constrained as does the dynamic range. Better than average sounding tube and good looking, but certainly no A Frame. Hopefully they open up some.

Update: These did open up quite a bit over the past couple days and is a nice sounding tube....beautiful mids. There is something special about the PQs that I really prefer though.

1960 Chatham USN-CAHG-6080WA up for this weekend and maybe a special surprise Saturday. This tube appears to have the exact same construction as the Amperex 7802. Initially, I think it lacks the same dynamic snap as its higher Gm relative. It retains the same deep black background. It most certainly has a much lower Gm, as my CCS is quite toasty absorbing what's not across the tube.

Surprise ended up coming in a day early, so Ive been able to listen all day..... The 421A is an amazing tube with super deep sub-base and great infrasonics. It's got a really wide soundstage with smooth extended highs that add to the air of the space of a recording. Placebo or not, this tube seems to give my music an emotional dimension that the others don't. Muddy Waters sounds like he's jammin here with me.
