Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

The headphone is genuine. I'm sure about that.
It has the holograms, it passes the test on sennheiser's webpage, the store only sells genuine products and the headphone has that glorious sound quality.
It's just the cable that came reversed in the plug.

I bought an Hifiman RE0 from them some 7 years ago that I still use. When it was 1,5 years old one of the earpieces separated in two.
I contacted them about that (the warranty in the EU is valid for 2 years) and they refused to help because they were no longer selling their products (now
they do again).
I took my chances and glued the two parts together and it has been fine ever since.
So I might just get a refund and pay some 50 or 60€ more and buy from amazon.

Just arranjed to get a refund and the headphones will go back.

Will buy later from amazon at the usual price of 310/320€.
I just rushed to get the lower price but it didn't go as expected.

Thank you all for your help.

Not to take away from the HD6XX which really is a wolf in "black" sheeps clothing but just took delivery of a shiny new pair of HD650s yesterday ...first impressions "visually only" taking them out of the box for the very first time is that they do look like a higher quality item IMHO and worth the extra $$$. Funny as I did have not that experience opening my HD6XXs when I had my other 5 year HD650s on hand, the current 650s also have a shiny little hologram sticker on the right side driver...oooohhhh... (all cosmetic as far as I can tell but do inspire pride of owner ship...lol..)

I know it has been beaten to death in this thread, but I want to put a bit of a spin on the classic question: what would be the best amp to drive the HD6XX AND some PM3'S?
How about the iFi ICAN SE?

Thanks for any input.

If you want a good portable amp, the FIIO A5 is a rather good choice.
Would that have the power for the HD6XX phones? Is 150 mW at 300ohm enough to get the max sound of the HD6XX? I do not listen to phones loudly.

Thanks for the input!

I should also mention that I don't see the HD6XX as portable phones. They will only be used in the lazy boy. So I don't really need a portable amp. I would like a unit that could drive the HD6XX AND some PM3'S.

Thanks.

My main rig is a Bryston BHA-1 but my very affordable little S.M.S.L. sApII also does a very admirable job driving the 650s and the AKG K7XXs... if I may say so.

I found the PM-3 fairly bright sounding. If you do as well, then maybe a tube amp to warm up the sound. I hear 650/6xx loves tube amps.

That sounds like a job for Project Polaris.

I think the Polaris suggestion by @Solrighal is on the money and would add the Project Ember if you want to roll tubes. Both of these amps have adjustable output impedance/resistance to better match your headphones requirements. If cost is not a issue then there are quite a few other amps that will work: Liquid Glass (best that I've heard), HA-501, MHA-100 or 150, DarkStar, BH S.E.X 2 or 3, Elise, MicroZOTL2, Icon audio HP-8, and Schiit Rag/Mjolnir2

Wow, SMSL has Z wide selection and VERY attractive price points, even in Canada. What's the catch?
