HD 600s maybe

I prefer my shp9500S over HD600 and HD650 and HD700. heard them all together.

if you havent done so yet, replace the earpads with HM5 pleather. sound is subjective. but w.e

sidenote, my main cans at the moment are Monolith M560 with Sony XBR 700 earpads. they are lovely.

could you elaborate on why? everywhere i've read says the 600 is superior and a good choice to upgrade.

600 and 650 are very source dependant. Need good amp to let them shine.

Why don't consider planar? Monolith M1060 or Hifiman 400i will be a good pair to start venturing into the planar world.

I got bored of the HE-350 so I picked up the 9500s and they are instantly better sounding. I didnt want to spend much for something I brought to work and needed something open back. Should've never bought the 350s. Now on the hunt for deepr pads.

so far I have tried HM5 sheep skin, velour, hybrid, Shure 1540, 1840, and Dekoni Elite Velour ATHM0X. The most comfortable is Shure 1540 due to its large size and breathability, second up is Dekoni due to its better memory foam. The high density velour on Dekoni just gets too hot after a while, but like they say, the low is excellent for velour.

I actually have a set of Shure 1540. Even though they are very comfy, for the HM5 velours start to itch.

I found a seller on Amazon selling knock off HM5s and ordered the hybrids for $11. They also sell a pad that resembles denim material.

Love my philips shp9500 for gaming right now. Actually, I got 8 people from my office yesterday to buy them from newegg after I brought them in to demo at work. That was how many people were blown away by them.

Basically I have my FX-Audio DAC-X6 dac/amp at work and ran this demo on youtube.

First I would have them use whatever headphones or earbuds or IEMs they were currently using without my DAC. Then I had them put on the SHP9500 with my DAC. They were all literally blown away. Many people jerked their head instantly to the left and nearly fell over when the demo started while using the SHP9500. It was hilarious to watch the reactions.

My only problem with the headphone personally is the little plastic snaps that hold the padding to the band. Those are some weak snaps. Mine haven't broke, but they barely hold the pad on the left side. Thinking about doing a slightly more semi permanent solution with zipties or something. I hate using zipties though as it makes the cans look janky.

So I tried multiple pads and I liked the Shure 1840s but Audeze vegans were the best. (lol)

All the pads I tried

HE350 velour pads - Just sounded like crap
Dekoni DT sheepskins - Little muffled
Shure 1540 - Almost like the Dekonis
HM5 angled - Kinda liked these but too bad they came torn
Audeze vegans - Honestly these were the best, only if they were in black lol

Sorry I am not good at describing the sound.

NTK1 you rolled Audeze vegan only because you bought it for your M1060 right? (High 5, I own a pair of those too!) I'm too cheapskate to buy $80-100 pads so I am happy with the sheepskin memory foam pads rocking on my 9500. Both my M1060 and 9500 now rock sheepskin pads. I'm happy and done with modding them =)

I prefer sheepskin too but for these, the velours worked better for me. I am keeping the vegans for back up or until I can find someone willing to trade them for the black ones. Which sheepskins did you get for your 9500s?
