IE8 and UE700 have totally different sound signature. IMO, IE8 - warmer, deeper bass. UE700 - colder, tended to mid and high like q-Jays.

My IE8 also has visible red cable inside the plug but the L/R letter is not angled. I can't believe mine is fake as I bought from the largest electronic store in Hong Kong with warranty card from sennheiser. So, what's wrong with the L/R letter?

I 've tried the same thing in similar way as you did on my Westone 3. The HF is much better and it also help balancing the mid and low. It's a great improvement as W3 always give me a dark and muffy sound. Did you think of any further mod to make the phone bright?
