I think I should also note that I'm not looking for stellar performance in games and movies, just adequate performance will suit me. I am skeptical because I have heard varying degrees of negativity about Grado's poor performance with non-music applications.

If I did in fact get over the comfort problem, would the performance dip during movies and games be worth the money I would save?

With a little bit more research I've discovered that the AD900s come highly recommended and supposedly sound great unamped. It sounds like they are another possibility.
