Could noise canceling headphones cause hearing damage?

I guess there are going to be some brands that do it better than other obviously with BOSE being the worst.    And I thought noise canceling headphones were done for comfort rather than safety.      Quote:

Could noise canceling headphones cause hearing damage?

Quote:   Right so my thought was that since there is less visible light the pupils will open more thus letting in un-filtered UV light at the same time.  Since they aren't responding to UV light they're not closing to reduce input.

Could noise canceling headphones cause hearing damage?

I would think that damage is likely to happen.  Just because noise is "canceled out" doesn't mean that there aren't sounds being produced that are outside our range of hearing but equally damaging.      Wearing sunglasses that don't filter UV will cause your pupils to open and allow in UV...

ordered audio-technica ath-a700's on amazon and they shipped a900's!

Did you look around the box or on the invoice to see if this was deliberate?   If not they will probably just charge your card for the difference if you approve it.

    JVC HA-D990

I had a pair of those JVC's.  They were on Stereophile's recommended list and I can clearly see why.     I only wish I could find another pair of them somewhere because mine have broken.  I thought there might be some around as NOS but no luck.     After a break in they did indeed...

    Which to buy: Senn's HD555 vs. Shure's SRH440 vs. Grado's SR80i

I must be deaf. I see a posting here saying that the sennheiser hd-485's are good for music. I must say that I had a pair of the 485's and I thought they sounded horrible. OTOH I bought some sr80's (not the I model) and they sucked me into another dimension. Could something have been song...

Best headphone purchase, worst headphone purchase you have made

Worst: Sennheiser HD 485 - sounded worse than some old hd 420's.   I should have bought the hd280 pros instead that day.   I gave them to my neice.  My wife thought they sounded fine for some reason.  I tried breaking them in with white noise from a Stereophile test cd and nothing helped.  ...
