Personal CD Players through the ages ~ A Review [Updated 10/05/2003]
among the legary sony I own, I like D-J50 and D-777 more. Simply because they are so beautifully built. You might have better sound from D-Z555 and/or D-303. Purk, yes, I own them all.- pelikan1931

Personal CD Players through the ages ~ A Review [Updated 10/05/2003]
discman worth hearing. part 1. D-100, D-J50 (the thinnest discman, except D-EJ2000, excellent built quality!) D-303, D-515. part 2 will include: D-Z555, D-311, D-777, D-EJ01- pelikan1931

Personal CD Players through the ages ~ A Review [Updated 10/05/2003]
inside the battery compartment there is a little slider, which when moved flips out a spring connector for fitting two AA batteries into where the BP2EX battery normally sits. Again, this is the only player than I have seen such a function on, and even now in todays modern era, I do think that...- pelikan1931

Yes, sometimes it is difficult to balance "details" and "warmth". To draw a comparison, D777 is a warmer machine than D-EJ01, and D-EJ01 on the other hand has more "details" to offer. It is really difficult to say which one is better, it all depends on the music you listen.- pelikan1931

D-303 vs. D-311
D303 is listed as a "special purpose" discman, I think it is the optical out thing. You will also notice whilst headphone out is steel, lineout is gold plated. perhaps D303 is meant to be a output specialist? D303(1990) DJ50(1991) D311(exact date not known to me, anyone knows?)...- pelikan1931

D-303 vs. D-311
Just dig out a Sony 1993 catalogue. It shows D321 (32,800 yen), D311(37,800 yen), D303 (also 37,800 yen) and D515 (54,800 yen!). So the top model appears to be D515! I think all the talk of 303 vs 311 is not complete until due comparison with D515 is made. The Sony online time capsule on discman...- pelikan1931

do you have picture of D-626? what is so good about it? and why D-151? it is a low end model. after the smooth fiberglass of D777, I now long to touch the cold steel of D-J50. D-515 has some sort of plastic coated steel? I dont know, it has the D777 shiny grey but with more substance.- pelikan1931

amongst the three, I believe D-515 should have the best sound. It is usually the case, the earlier you go back, the fuller and lounder the sound.- pelikan1931
