Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
Quote: leungie B&W P7 maybe? I've been itching to try it out my self. It kind of falls in the same category as the es10 and it's suppose to be more fun sounding rather than neutral (just like the es10's :).- zool

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
dizzyorange and Frenchwah, I've sent the fw via e-mail. I don't have a remote so I can't check. I'd really like to know what version it is if you have a remote. This is my first NAD product.- zool

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
I've tried the older fw that I got from dizzyorange. Thanks for sending it to me. I how ever did not like it. The older FW has smaller soundstage and less impact in the bass.. It does sound smoother but IMO that it not better in this case. The FW that I had before has allot more attack and wider...- zool

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
I doubt the d1050 has the same internals as the d3020 as far as the DAC goes. I know they use the same DAC chip but the d1050 very little room for any thing else than the internals of the DAC. I don't think they could have kept the same structure and also crammed a power amp in to the same box...- zool

SE530/535 Acoustic Filter Mod: More SQ improvement than cables? Dampers!
I don't think there will be any problem reselling them if that is what you want (as long as you didn't break any thing other than just removing the original dampers). You can get the original waxguards/dampers from shure but I think the white knowles ones are better and probably allot cheaper...- zool

SE530/535 Acoustic Filter Mod: More SQ improvement than cables? Dampers!
The knowles dampers sits looser in one of my IEM's but sits perfectly in the other one. This is just the way it is. There might have been some glue on the original filters and some of it was left behind in one of them but in the other one it was mostly removed. Not really sure about that but...- zool

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
Wow, you simply don't know what level of detail these headphones are capable of until you have tried the lambskin earpads. I'm using the esw9 earpads right now and the detail is just taken to another level. Sort of reminds me of my CD3000's.. Very detailed but can sound a bit overly bright at...- zool

SE530/535 Acoustic Filter Mod: More SQ improvement than cables? Dampers!
Yes, I fully agree. All though I have been using the white knowles dampers for a while now and I find them to be the best suited for me and also better than the stock ones. I really liked the detail of the grey ones but I found them to be a little fatiguing when listening for longer periods...- zool

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
You don't really need any guides as far as cable modding them. It's pretty straight forward.. Remove pads, unscrew and remove the cups. After that It's just 2 wires ground and signal and those are easy to tell apart since they are color coded... But always use multimeter to check the signal just...- zool

Anyone know where I can get the Lambskin ES10 Japan replacement earpads? Or any good replacement pad for the ES10 for that matter. Audiocubes doesn't seem to have them for some reason :(.- zool

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
Main thing is, you want a low resistance cable. The lower the better IMO. The ones I use are as low as 0.3 Ohm. You don't want a cable that is much more than 0.7-0.8. To me cables that measure above 1 Ohm generally start sounding a little muddy. I think the original ES10 cable was about 1 Ohm...- zool

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
Nope, sorry. I did not take any pictures of the actual work. But the ES10 is not a difficult headphone to open or work with. If you have no or little soldering experience I would not recommend you to start with the ES10. It could end up being very expensive for you :). The soldering points...- zool

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread
Well, I have not heard the ODAC yet so I can not comment on that combo. I have had allot of equipment through the years that has been a bit too analytical and neutral which I have grown bored of. As of now, I would not think that the ES10 and O2 are such a combination. I don't find it to be very...- zool

I highly recommend pairing the ES10 with the O2 amp. Allot of detail and the attack of the bass is very impressive. Very good instrumental separation as well and I'm only using a ipod touch as source, still sounds amazing. Highly recommended as the O2 is really cheap but sounds way above it's...- zool

Little Dot MKIII Tube Rolling
I'm really hoping that I'll get them next week. After reading the review from the tube rolling guide thread, I got really excited about this upgrade. I've also recently upgraded DAC and interconnects which have had some significant improvements. I'm hearing allot of "microdynamics" now that I...- zool

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
Well, the motherboard is brand new, only had it for like 2 months maybe. So the sockets have not been used allot. I've used the same exact cable for a ubs hub and never had any drop outs there. Just seems like the DAC is extra sensitive when it comes to signal.- zool

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
Well, the reason I wanted to make one from the start was I wanted gold plated connectors. I noticed that my DAC would loose signal from time to time when I was fiddling around with the wires at the back of my computer. The standard usb connector seemed very sensitive which is kind of weird...- zool

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
What is the difference between digital signal sent through usb or digital sent through spdif or AES/EBU? They are all digital 1's and 0's, correct? And if those other standards are subject to noise and jitter what makes usb so magical that it totally is immune to this? A good article to read...- zool

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
Just a quick comparison with the onboard amp and my little dot mk III. The onboard amp definitely sounds allot more neutral (Like SS amps often do when compared with tube amps) with a impressive soundstage. I would prefer it to sound a bit fuller in the bass area but I think this is something...- zool

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
The reason why I'm asking is as a cable maker myself I would think that the thin Data +, data - wires would be subject to some noise from the +5V cable that it's tightly wrapped around them. Almost no standard USB cable have them separately shielded but allot of "hifi"-based" USB chords do. From...- zool

I'm no expert. But wouldn't the +5VCC cable ideally be separately shielded from data+/- and gnd? To minimize jitter or interference.- zool

NAD D1050 DAC and headphone amplifier
Just got the D1050 to day. And have spent a couple of hours with it (5-6 hours so far). Sounds really good I must say, Definitely a good improvement over my iBasso D10 cobra. But that was expected, I would have been really disappointed other wise from a dedicated desktop piece like this vs. a...- zool
